Many of you might remember my experiment with Dave's Ka'Boom new Streak Freak lure. I took the tube and treble off the back end and tied in a harness in it's place. And on my first test of the modified lure on the Saginaw Bay, caught some decent walleyes with it.

This is the only reason and gratifying results that would make my mind up to modify some of the regular Mean Streak Lures in this same fashion. Mainly because they come in a more varied color assortment. With the help of my trusty Dremmel grinder, I removed the back section of a variety of colored Mean Streaks. I even added another idea I got from a 84 year old guy in PA. who Mailed me the idea of adding small beads to the rig. These all have been placed back in their original slots in my tackle box, minus their original back ends, waiting for next years trolling season.

Those look great! Also look like quite a bit of work, but obviously worth the time investment.

It was a small pain in the azz Steve. Only because of my 54 year old eyes and the close quarters between the two body sections of the Mean Streaks. I jury rigged the huge magnifying glass I use to read small print, on my fly tying vise, so I could see what I was grinding.

Guido.

Jayman is right. This modification isn't a new idea. When it comes to fishing, there are very few real new ideas left. We've been doing this type of thing for over 25 years, starting with adding a harness behind a T-4 flatfish trolling on Michigans Lake Mitchell or Munoscong Bay for walleyes. And more recently, tying harnesses type rigs behind Wobble Trolls or Spin-N-Glo's for slow trolling walleyes on the Tittabawassee River, or using cut bait presentations in this fashion on the BIG lakes for Lake trout and salmon. What this modification does do better though in my view, is Tie-in the 2 techniques in a better looking, more (unit tight) configuration, that stays stable and can be trolled better at varied speeds.

Have you thought about adding a small spinner above the harness? It looks like the taper of the body would allow a spinner to spin slowly during a pull in the water.

I mave have used the "Stable" statement in my last post with to much emphisis. It took me a long while using the components I used, to get the right modifying formula, so the Mean Streaks diving/wiggling dynamics included the harness behind it to run straight and true with the nightcrawler attached. Putting a spinner anywhere on the rig I'm sure would make it either run sideways or put it into a spin. I'm not even sure at this point rather my adding the small beads like I did without actually testing it, will change the first results I had when using the rig. These rigs will also have to hit my swimming pool test tank next year before they hit the Bays water next summer.

In principal I agree. They dive with a nightcrawler attached to the back, but that's where the similarities end. I guess you'd have to modify one yourself and see it in action, to see the real difference.
