Member Posts: 118 Location: OSHKOSH, WI | I have heard in the next couple of weeks if it already hasn't started the burbot should be in full swing on the reefs and shore lines. If there are any veterans out there that want to show a rookie a thing or two about catching these fish message me back. Looking to bring the girlfriend with me also if that is okay. Beer and bait I will provide for the insight. Bob

Member Posts: 1314 Location: Menasha, WI | Bob, It's really not brain surgery. Burbot, aka eelpout and lawyers, spawn in mid-winter on almost all the reefs. I hate the slimy things and when they really get going it's almost hard to not catch them. I suppose if I were to actually chase them I'd never be able to catch one ![]() David, They're a relative of the cod and supposedly are good to eat. I just can't force myself to clean one as they are ugly as hell and very slimy. When you pull one out of the hole they'll wrap around your arm. Here's a pic of Chip Leer with a lawyer.. Thanks Viking for the info...I wish I had a portable GPS system with Bago on it as my boat does to pinpoint the reefs....lot easier on soft water to get to. Thanks and if anyone is still interested in meeting up message me

Member Posts: 160 Location: Menasha, WI | Burbot, Eel Pout, and Lawyers are all the same thing as well. If you want to catch them, make sure you have your bait just a few inches off the bottom, as most of the time these fish will only hit your bait when placed very close to the bottom. They do prefer shiners it seems over rosie reds....FYI
