I am going to buy an Alum boat around the 18' range, it is going to be used so I am interested in what you know or think of the different manufaturers, how do you rank them and what would you look for?

my dad has a Starcraft SFM 170 with a 90 merc on it, plenty of boat to fish 2 or 3, but like every boat in this range, it crowds quick. All in all, very nice boat, like almost all tin boats, the ride quality isnt the best in rough water, but rides fairly decent on 2-3'ers on Poygan at a slow pace. Very deep boats, storage is something left to be desired, but is adequette<sp>, id consider one if i was in the market, can prolly find one the same year as the ones listed above, but at a much better price.

One thing that maybe some people don't look at enough is accessability. Check and see how easy it is to get at the batteries, oil reservoir, livewell/bilge pumps, electric wiring (locators, bowmounts, pumpsetc.). These are all things that require regular maintenance or upgrading, and it can make for a miserable chore to get at some of this stuff. Some of these things are buried so bad it is almost impossible to get at them.

Warranty--how long?--covered 100%or not?--some make the consumer pay percentages of repairs, as they offer "lifetime limited"read between the lines--look for transferable warranty on used boats(some offer transferable warranty's)

boats cost a lot-make sure your covered-good luck

Oak you have opened up the BIGGEST can of worms you can. which is Best? Alum, Glass Welded,Rivited??????thumper has made some of the best points I've seen about accessability to things,
I'll put my Lund 2025 against any for ride, not that speedy but great quality. Most Boats today are. But I don't want to get into what's best, most guy's don't. Go fish a PRO-AM or two if you can, ride in the differant boats see first hand.
But remember one thing every Pros Boat is the BEST!
