Found out that I left my deep cycle Interstate battery in my boat in the storage unit over the winter, not good! It looks like it is totally fried, won't take a charge after I had it on the charger over an hour.

Any way I can save this or do I need to go get a new one? Any help or tips would be appreciated. Thanks.

Leave it on the charger low amperage overnight. It might come back, but will never be as strong as it once was. You are probably looking at a new starting battery in your future.

Do you have an onboard charger? If so, they don't like a fully dischatrged battery. Sometimes if you put a regular automotive charger on it for several hours, it will charge enough for the on board to charge it. But you may be looking at a new battery.

Did you put it a way with a full charge? Was the level topped off before storage? Was there a drain on the battery while stored? How old is the battery? Ususally, a battery will not self discharge in the cold weather, providing it was fully charged before being stored. The cold slows the rate of self discharge to almost nil. If there was a slight draw on the battery, then that could explain the dead battery when you got her out of storage. Or, it could be the battery is just old and at the end of it's useful life.

i thought i lost 2, year old optimas last year. they got left in the boat while i was waiting to winterize. i had accidenly tripped my bilge pump switch and when i got back to the boat a couple of weeks later both of my main batterys were completly discharged and frozen. i brought them in, thawed them out and put them on a trickle charge. they ended up taking a full charge and i went the whole season without having to top them off. i'll never buy another brand. on the other hand i have an 8-10 yeay old intersate in my garden tractor. it gets parked every fall in an unheated shed. it starts every spring. i was just to the shed for the first time in 3 months yesterday. that old batery lit the motor right up.
