Member Posts: 318 Location: Adell, WI | Well the last two days of pre-fishing has been tuff. Nothing but gusting winds and rain/snow. Today a tournament was held and last report was only one fish was caught a 3 pounder. I have been catching just a few under these tuff conditions. I am learning alot! If so, I don't think my 142.08 is gonna hold up, unless they add a day or 2 to the tourney. Good luck Dale, Rick, Rob, and an old buddy from Johnsburg, Kevin Blanck! Member Posts: 299 Location: Wind lake, Wi | Well here is the report from the weekend. Sat. we started off on the reefs just north of david besse nuc plant and picked up 21 eyes from 18-24" and 2 eyes that were 28 and 29.5". All fish were caught jigging hair jigs in 6-16 fow. Sun started off slow in the same general areas that we fished on sat. So we moved to the shoreline about 300 yds off shore and picked up 15 eyes that were 18"-27" then they shut off so we moved to some humps that had very little boat traffic and picked up 9 more in two drifts to finish up the day. Monday we started where we left off on Sun. and picked up a quick 12 males in 3 passes and the heavy boat traffic slowed them down quick so we moved to crib reef east hump in 19fow and picked up 5 more . Then the south west winds picked up and moved the dirty water over most of the reefs in the area and the fish shut down a little but we managed to pick 1 here and there. Most fish were caught on jigs and fat heads. It seemed like switching colors and weights were key on catching. I did take some fish on silver buddies but was not the hot bait right now because the water temp was only 39 degrees and fish seemed slow paced for the most part. I did talk to a guy that had a 15.1 lb eye and 3 others that were close to 10 pds. and he said that he caught them on blades about 200-300 yds off shore just east of the marina entrance right next to david besse. The spawn is happening right now and a lot of females are getting beat up by the males and the females are floting up to the surface all spawned out and the seagulls are having a great feast. We seen females that were anywhere from 28-33" floating on the surface and all spawned out. They were still alive but very tired and slow. Well there is my report for lake Erie. We had alot of fun and caught plenty of fish. So what are you waiting for get out there and go fish. SEE YA!!

Member Posts: 226 Location: Oshkosh,WI | Well the first day proved to be tuff for half the field while the other half seemed to catch a few nice fish. Day 2 is supposed to be very windy with wind reports of NE 25-35 knots. 6-9 ft waves. Last time this happened they called the day. If this happens we will not see the 100# weights we are used to seeing. Lets hope the wind doesnt blow as bad as what they are saying. All I can say is that if it blows in Port Clinton like it did today on Winnebago, the PWT would be smart to call the day. There is no fish or tournament worth loosing an angler over. Good luck guys! Be Safe, Erie has a long history of North'Easters swalloing boats. ...GALE WARNING IN EFFECT... .OVERNIGHT...NORTHEAST GALES TO 35 KNOTS. A CHANCE OF SHOWERS. Member Posts: 318 Location: Adell, WI | Hi everyone.. Day two here at the Professional Walleye Trail has been cancelled due to strong winds. They think Friday should be okay. My tournament season starts off great for me. I couldn't have ask for a better start. I was able to land a MONSTER Lake Erie Walleye at 12.76 #'s.. This fish was big fish on day one. If no-one else catchs a bigger one. The fish could very well be the biggest of the tournament season. But this is Lake Erie and someone may very well break it. I end the day in 31st place and will go all out on friday due or die to win! Larry Eaton who traveled down to Lake Erie with me from Wi and help me figure out the fish. Is fishing as amateur here. He has been paired up with the day one leader Daryl Christensen and is very excited to fish with him. So they will be fishing together on day 3. They will make a great team and Daryl should have a great chance to win. I wish Larry and Daryl the best of luck. Larry too wishs me luck also. It should be a big show down. Larry and I arrived 11-12 days ago and have spent some very long hours on the water practicing. Hard work has paid off. Now its about to get real exciting. Things couldn't have been plan any better. It's just so much fun. Dale Kuklinski www.walleyefirst.com www.walleyeUSA.com

Member Posts: 538 | Way to go Dale. Big fish day one! What a great experience. I was worried that you might get burned out with all the pre-fish days, but they apparently just got you warmed up. I am in there rooting for Friday conditions that will allow you back on your pattern for some more monsters. Best of luck, Jim O

| Way to go Dale, I took you off my fantasy team at the last second. Thanks for catching that monster 'eye. Now I have to kick myself twice as hard. I think the Patriot crew will be going to the bank after this one. Thanks for all the updates, those of us that would like to be there but can't appriciate the heads up! | |||

Member Posts: 226 Location: Oshkosh,WI | Trolling was the Key, but Jigs a Factor in Christensen’s PWT Win Port Clinton, Ohio.....Daryl Christensen, with the assistance of a walleye jigged from a reef, won the opening tournament of the In-Fisherman Professional Walleye Trail (PWT). Fishing Lake Erie at Port Clinton, Ohio, the veteran pro from Montello, Wisconsin, captured his second PWT victory. The Frenzy Eastern Pro-Am Artificial Challenge ran two days instead of the normal PWT 3-day schedule. Northeast gale-force winds caused cancellation of day two. These conditions also impacted the post-spawn walleyes. Pro anglers crossing the stage on Friday, April 18, blamed a later-than-usual spring (two weeks late), cold water (38 to 45 degrees) and extremely dirty water (described as peanut butter to chocolate) as reasons the fish shut down. Christensen’s winning weight, 57.18 pounds, paid $63,000. This was his 13th top 10 finish. He nabbed first place at the 1998 Walleye Super Pro. He won that event jigging, and Lake Erie was a trolling bite, which resulted in his top position after day one. After three hours of no action on the final day, he retreated to a reef near South Bass Island, and his amateur partner, Larry Eaton, Blue Mounds, Wisconsin, hooked a 4-plus pounder. They later nailed a fish trolling to weigh 11.55 pounds. “The jigging fish guaranteed the victory,” Christensen said. “This really feels good.” Winning the amateur top trophy and a Lund boat rigged with a Mercury outboard on an Eagle trailer valued at $15,000 was Kevin McCullough, Greencastle, Indiana. He fished with pros from opposite ends of the United States, Todd Frank, Pulaski, New York, and Bobby Crow, Paterson, Washington. Second place pro was Dave Kraft, Bismarck, North Dakota, with 49.92 pounds, for a $20,000 payday. This was his seventh top 10 PWT finish. He was a winner on Lake Winnebago in 1996. Third place, with his highest PWT finish ever, went to Brad Davis, Jackson, Wisconsin. He won $13,000 for 49.53 pounds. His best finish to date was a seventh on Lake Erie in 2001. Fishing a full field of 143 professional anglers and 143 amateurs, six rookie pros finished in the money, including Ken Van Oss, Oshkosh, Wisconsin, 7th, Jack Neuman, Naperville, Illinois, 15th, Kevin Schweder, Janesville, Wisconsin, 20th, Mike Hiser, Pickerinton, Ohio, 23rd, Pete Petros, Dekalb, Illinois, 28th, and Marc Hudson, Fremont, Ohio, 32nd. Anglers discovered deep-diving crankbaits with “wide-wobbles” performed best. They ran these lures in the top 10 feet of the water column for best results. Water that was “in-between” proved best. Too clear or too muddy and the fish did not cooperate. Special awards from Coleman went to amateur Rich Sidor, Clarendon Hills, Illinois, who advanced 61 places. He won $600. Pro Shannon Kehl, Menoken, North Dakota, moved up 53 places and won $1,000. The Gander Mountain Heavyweight awards went to Christensen, $500, and his amateur partner, Bob Mongan, Casper, Wyoming, $300, for their one-day 45.63 pounds. Miller High Life big fish awards went to Dale Kuklinski, Adell, Wisconsin, and amateur partner David Albright, West Des Moines, Iowa. They each won $1,500 for a 12.76 pound walleye. Bill St. Peter, Bay City, Michigan and amateur Don Parsons, Wadsworth, Ohio, landed a 11.98 pounder and split $1,000. The PWT will return to Lake Erie July 9-11, fishing Dunkirk, New York. The Pro-Am format allows amateurs to learn secrets from the pros and have fun doing it. Amateur openings still exist in this event. The tour stops next at Lake of the Woods in Baudette, Minnesota, May 21-23. Information, photos, news and entry blanks are on the PWT web site, www.professionalwalleyetrail.com. Also, the Mercury Real-Time Score Board with immediate scores is watched by hundreds of thousands of walleye fans each weigh-in day. The tournament was hosted by the community of Port Clinton and the Ottawa County Convention and Visitors Bureau. Duane Myers and Phil Witt earned PWT Key Awards for their exemplary service during the planning and operational phases of the tournament. The PWT announced plans to return next April.
