I was planning on heading back over to the East shore of Bago today, but the strong south wind and my business partner's suggestion that we try Poygan sounded too good to turn down. We hit the water about 8:00 and ran from the Duck Inn all the way to the West end of Poygan and set-up to troll right down the middle of the lake with the wind.
After starting out with 6 different combinations of crawler harnesses, everything from a #1 blade to a #5 blade with both no weights and 1/8 oz in-line chain weights, we settled on #5 Colorado blades in Perch with Gold back (Northland Tackle) 20 feet behind the boards @ 1.6 MPH with the 1/8 oz chain weights. If you have ever fished Poygan this time of year, it's always a mixed bag of action including Walleyes, Northerns, Whitebass and Sheephead, no cathfish today. Action today was steady and we were able to put a 2 man limit of Walleyes in the boat in 2 long passes (2 hours each). Nothing over 20, but a nice group of fish and the Sheephead and Whitebass and Northerns kept us entertained all morning.
