Well, after a full year of running two different models (17-52 console & 17-48 tiller)I can honestly say I will never go back to running a prop john boat for the river. The upper mississippi river is as low as last year. Just take a look at the pictures. So far no dents or dings in my boat. I settled on a tiller jet for maneuverability plus I plan on using the boat for duck hunting, guess that's why it's camo.

See the boat in action on a skinny run around st cloud, mn.

It's been real nice to fish pools that I really couldn't hit before. I'm finding decent walleye fishing lately from those hard to reach areas. Pools that are a whoppin' 5' deep are holding active eye's.

Jon,

Is that the Clearwater Bridge? It's nostalgic to see some of my old fishing holes -- I did my undergrad at Saint Cloud State and we used to wade the river around the Beaver Islands a lot this time of year. When the water was real low, all you needed to do was find a little hole and there would be fish, eyes and smallies.

Actually Bob, the pictures were shot in sauk rapids. And you're right, find a little deeper water and you are likely to find a few fish, especially as fall rolls around.

We sell quite a few jon boats with jets and have for years. Our rivers in Montana are really skinny water and it is the only way to go.

Word of caution on the duck hunting plans 'tho.

Jets do not work in weeds!

Thick weeds like milfoil, yes. Eel grass, so far, it will chew right through.

If you ever get a chance a buddy of mine makes a nice jet boat also. You pick the hull size and he will custom make the boat everything from seating, storage, console set up. And his walk through windshield design is is really nice on a cold morning.
