Location: Gladstone, Michigan 49837 | In the past week seeing finally warming water temps. up too 60' the past several days. Unstable weather conditions however throughout the past week with rain, thunderstorms and winds making for some different fishing.
The lateness in the season seen by the lack of weeds coming up in places and finding still a good number of fish 15 feet and shallower.
We spent time fishing in the Whitefish/Rapid River channel several different days this past week along with working the upper Bay flats again in shallow water. Heavy south winds increasing the water level in the upper river netted lots of undersize walleye and just keepers.
Talking with numerous anglers seeing similar results along with some OK luck.
Best baits still being floater jigs, leadheads, harnesses and casting small cranks. Live bait and crawlers and leeches although talking with one gentleman the other day using small fathead minnows on a 1/4 ounce leadhead jig.
Still using "Gulp-Alive" seeing OK results! Emerald Shiner in 3 inch length as well the 3 inch Jig Worm.
A group staying at the Vagabond Resort http://www.vagabondresort.com from Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin seeing enough fish for some fish fries while here for a week.
Another Family, Don Schamblin his son and daughter-in-law staying at Lindbergs Resort http://www.lindbergscoveresort.com brought in a pretty nice catch the other day as well.
Smallmouth Bass action is picking up a bit as seeing fish moving in the shallow, sand flats and rocky areas of the upper Bay and River.
Tubes and minnow-style baits taking some fish along with sized down crankbaits.
All for right now and we'll continue to update,
Marty
