Ok, ok, so you want some fishing information...................

Winnebago is very slow for fishing overall. There seems to be a lot of sheeps everywhere, but we all know that. The reefs are very slow if not dead and trolling is not doing so well either. We have not been getting too many fish at all right now, so here is what I suggest: fish shallow and with crankbaits. Try casting in and around the weed beds. This area will hold warmer water and will also hold some bait fish. The walleyes will be there looking to cash in on some easy prey. Try using Flicker Shads or Shad Raps. We are currently casting #7 size on both of these. The best colors seem to be either a clown colored bait or a multi-colored bait right now. Smallmouth bass are also present while doing this and they seem to be on the larger side too. It is very nice to see how these fish have made a nice comeback over the past few years. Great fighters and nice to look at, but other than that, I rather have fish with teeth....lol.

The Fox River around Oshkosh is having some success for people who are after whitebass. Most are pulling flies and catching good numbers of whitebass and an occasional walleye. One of the keys to pulling flies is to make sure that the fly has some tinsel in it for the best color choice. I have been running flies for a few years only, and we have noticed that flies with tinsel in them puts more fish in the box then those that do not contain tinsel. I know several places that carry good flies including, Critter's in Winneconne, Dutch's in FDL, and Tews Twos in Oshkosh.

The area in and around the Winneconne area is probably one of the top spots for walleyes right now. There is some good action down by the gun club while trolling and some guys are doing well while pulling flies. I was recently at Winneconne and there were a lot of people fishing off the bridge and we saw several whitebass and walleyes caught off of it. Three ways with minnows seemed to be what most were using off the bridge. If your looking for some good minnows at a fair price, go to Lang's Landing as they have a good bait selection and some really nice looking minnows.

The crappies are heating up all over the system right now in the back waters. small minnows and tube jigs are the ticket here. We have been bouncing around from wood pile to wood pile with some good success. If you do not have aite in a few minutes go to the next clump of wood and try there. These fish seem to be suspended right now, so be sure to try all over the water column for the best of luck. Color of tube jig does not seem to make much difference, although I prefer either a lime green color or a purple sparkle color myself, tipped with a small minnow.

The most recent hotspot on the Wolf River seems to be the area in and around Fremont. Whitebass numbers are doing well and I had several reports come to me that catching a 100 day whitebass was common for some. 3-way rigs and a minnow are working and also bouncing jigs along the break wall near Partridge Lake is doing well too. Red Banks area is also doing well for whitebass and an occasional eye, so you may consider drifting this stretch of river and see what happens.

The Depere Dam is giving up walleyes both on jigs and crawlers tipped with a twister tail, or by casting cranks. There is a lot of people here in search of trophy fish, so be prepared but the action is awesome. I hope to get up there soon to nail a few big girls as they bulk up for the winter.
