Member Posts: 1406 | WHEN DO YOU THINK YOU WILL BE ABLE TO LAUNCH A BOAT AT ANY OF THE LANDINGS SOUTH OF FREEMONT TO THE MOUTH? NOT SOON ENOUGH FOR ME! I'm going with March 15th. Good Luck Tyee Edited by tyee 2/7/2005 6:08 PM

New User Posts: 2 | The second week of march would be a good bet. With 18''-20''at mouth (poygan)and 12"-14"on the banks of the river it will be awhile. Also keep in mind once its open in fremont sheets of ice usually jam up the big bend downstream of chico's landing wich takes another 2-3 days of warm weather to become navigable.See you on the river!!!

Looks like a below average year as things should have busted up today, I'm thinking 4-6" snow up north tomorrow might break her open by the end of the weekend!!! Good Luck Tyee

Always the optimist Tyee!! Going to be weeks before it breaks up in New London and the back waters. My boat is like a puppuy waiting at the door to go outside and play. I sat in it last night for a while just to familiarize myself with it. Been fishing with the "short stick" so much I'm not sure of my regular jigging rod will feel right...until I get one on that is. HELP ME!! I'm re-spooled, re-tooled, re-fueled and re-ally need to see some open water here in Wolf River Country

Doc, It never hurts! There is a landing in Fremont that should see action this coming week!!!! Let me know if you find one in New London, I too am retooled and waiting, although the drift in front of the garage will keep me away for a bit yet! I hear of some tip ups south of you that are catching some big girls though! Good Luck Tyee

Member Posts: 45 | We'll need some warm weather this week to open up the boat landing in Fremont. There was still snowmobiles buzzing up thru Fremont today on the river.

Tyee, I'm done with the "shiort stick" for now except for a few trips to Stroschein's to stare down a hole. He had one 12.2 the Tuesday morning and I saw some dandy fish caught in the snow this weekend. As far as the Wolf, no more ice fishing for me. All done. I'll hit DePere or suffer until ice out. Something about disappearing ice and current that make me a big chicken and have plenty to do building brownie points for when she pops open, then I'll be out most nights.
