Subject: Problems withthe Sealine 17sg

I recently purchased 6 new sealine 17sg counters from Gander Mountain... after 10 outings I took them back and exchanged them for the better $89.00 Diawa...

2 main reasons:

#1 Spool will not release while the line is under tension. (this is a real pain when the board is in the water and you want to release the line to move the board farther out)
#2 Line gets caught up inside the edge of the spool (10# Trilene XT) and you have to cut the line to remove it from the inside. (this is particually annoying when you have 100 feet of line out, I had it happen about 3 times on each reel).

If anyone is looking at buying the $49.00 Sealine.... my advice... spend the extra money and get the 2 ball bearing Diawa Linecounter for $89.00.

I've used the Diawa 27's for years and never had a problem!

As long as we're on the subject of the 27's, the only thing I really don't like about them is the clicker is too rigid. When I am trolling very slow and want to clear a board quickly, the stiff clicker does not let the line out fast enough. There isn't any adjustment for that is there? I have already tried backing the spool tensioner all the way off. When trolling faster, or using cranks that pull more it is better, but still not as fast as my other reels. Thanks for any advice. My 27's are worn in a bit so I don't have that problem. Sometimes an outside board goes way back so I'll reel the inside part way in and then let it back with the clicker while reeling the fish in on the outside board.

One more thing, don't freespool it, just lighten up the drag a bunch and the board should pull line out even if you're going super slow.

The $49 ones are not Sealines, they are accudepth reels. They are a cheaper built reel for the buyer on a budget.

Thumper, there is a spool tension adjustment, just like an old-time baitcaster, under the drag adjustment. I,too, had spool release problems with two Sealine 17s and exchanged them both for two new ones that have had no problems.I believe the earliest reels produced had a problem that was retified in later productions.

I have 6 Accudepth reels. They now reside in my new Sealine boxes, on a shelf. I may turn them into leadcore rieels. I got these 3 years ago at what I thought was a great price of $39.99. After some issues with having them filled to much, I thought I had them figured out. You can NEVER allow slack line with them, or the line will end up getting in between the spool and the frame, and you will have to cut the line as mentioned. Like I said, I had them figured out, but it was so much of a pain, I just gave up. I now have new Sealines, and couldn't be happier. I actually think my old cheap South Bend LC's work better than the Accudepths. At least with the lighter line.

As far as the clicker, yes, it is a bit stiffer than other reels. No problem when pulling cranks, or even rigs at faster speeds. When pulling slow, I just freespool them. I adjust the tensioner so I don't get any overrun, and this works for me.

Thanks for correcting the type of reels.... they were Accudepths... not Sealines

Anybody out there ever have problems with the 47LC's? I have three of them, and on all 3 the line counters mysteriously quit working. They work when you reel in, just not when you let line out. Is this fixable?

Bhill,

I'm thinking.

This may take a while..... hehehe

I'll let you know next week. Just too busy now, and my head hurts.

Otis,

I have several 47's. They work just fine for me. Muskie and Salmon is what I use them for.
