I have been to many sites and read many articles in magazines and also seen TV. My question is, There is this guy named Scott "AXL" Erike, or something like that, and he seems to be all over the place for walleye fishing. Is this guy ok, or should I book a trip with another guide. He seems popular, but I do not hear anything on him this time of year. Is he reputable or not, is my question? I just do not want to waste my money on a useless guide is all! Thanks for your input, and please do not think I am ripping on him, just want a quality guide for a good time for me and my buddy is all!

I think he is at winnebagoguides.net. Tim Long is another fellow that fishes the FLW. Heard some good things about him.

Member Posts: 514 Location: Darboy USA | For your money I think Axl is your guy for fishing Bago. He spends as much time out there as anybody during open water. If you're talking ice fishing then I'm not so sure. Larry Smith would be another good bet, summer or winter fishing. There are also others down in the Oshkosh, Omro, Fondy area that are very reputable. I guess let us know if you're thinking ice or open water and that should help narrow down your choices. Good luck with your decision.

Location: Rhinelander | I'd second Larry Smith for Ice, he's as good as they come. Not sure if Axl does Ice Guiding.

Member Posts: 3899 | I've not fished with Axl, but I have talked with him on several occasions. He seems like a nice guy, and is easy to approach. He's excited about his angling, and I'm going to make it a point to get out with him this year. If Sunshine would ever get off his tushy, and get his Captain's license, I recommend hiring him for a day on the Bago cahin. You might also try to get a hold of Mr Bluegill, aka Troy Peterson, especially if you want to ice fish. He's one of the best on the ice around here, and does pretty well on the soft water, too. Tell him Shep sent you.

His advice has helped me become much more succesful fishing the reefs on Bago. He's always upbeat. If I were to hire a guide, he'd be on my short list.

Member Posts: 1406 | I'LL second Mr. Bluegill, He has had his hand in the industry full time for a number of years and will put you on fish that are NOT community spots and overcrowded! He lives in Oshkosh and will be at the Sunnyview Ice expo in Oshkosh this weekend, mrbluegill.com He's on the ice/water 250-300 days a year! You won't find a more knowledgeable guy on the ice! But then again I'm Biased Good Luck Tyee

I WOULD SUGGEST YOU DO YOUR HOMEWORK BEFORE HIRING ANY GUIDE. IF LOCATIONS/REEF WHERE THEY ARE BITING ARE WHAT YOUR LOOKING FOR CHECK HERE ON THIS SITE DURING SPRING/SUMMER. HIRING A GUIDE CAN BE EXPENSIVE SO GO FOR THE BEST AND MOST EXPERIENCED YOU CAN FIND AND REMEMBER DONT BELIEVE EVERYTHING YOU READ ON SOMEONES SITE. AND JUST BECAUSE THEY CALL THEMSELVES A GUIDE DOES NOT MEAN YOU WILL CATCH FISH. GOOD LUCK AND PLEASE REPORT YOUR EXPERIENCE NO MATTER WHO YOU HIRE.

Member Posts: 885 | I consider Scott (Axle) a friend of mine. I would highly recommend him if you are looking to learn how to Jig fish or troll Bago. I fished with him a couple of times last summer on Bago and he and I fished the Bay of Green Bay together. He is very knowledgeable on Bago and will take the time to teach you how and where to fish bago. After 1 trip with Axle, you will learn more about fishing Bago, then you could gather by yourself in years of fishing. He is a great guy, still gets excited on every fish. Any good guide on bago can put fish in the boat on just about any given day, but what you take away from a trip with Scott is well worth the money. I've been fishing Bago for the last 25 years and I still learn something new every time I talk to him... I just wish he would buy a Skeeter with a Yamaha on the back so I would not have to hide my face when I fish with him.... Dominic
