| After a long departure from lake poygan and winnwconne I am back and ready to get on some eyes. Any doings on poygan for walters? Any info would be apprecited got fam comming in from ILL.

| I spent all day Saturday and Sunday on Poygan, Winneconnie and Big Butte... I have a family gathering next Sunday with Walleye on the menu... Rich, which grocery store is selling Walleye, cause I did not get a single Walleye in 20 hours on the water... nada zip nothing. I wonder if my guests can tell a Sheephead from a Walleye?
I did manage a couple 36+ inch Northers, but I can't fillet the y-bones so I always release them.
Looks like I'm fishing off the dock for the next week and we will be having Panfish.

| Welcome back Hammer! sounds like your ready to start hittin the walleyes. I've spent a lot of time on those waters. August can be tough, but not impossible. With the amount of rain we've had this year the current should be up, and thats good, more oxygen in the water. I'm thinking they should start to feed heavy any day now. Poygan is a great place to fish. They have walleye derbies out there so you know its good. Did a few derbies with the pros a couple years ago. Picked up a few tricks That I'll share. The most important thing out there is to run a good spread of contrasting baits. color can be key. Don't forget about speed to trigger a reaction strike. Another secret is to run a little piece of gulp on the front hook for scent.(that has saved the day a few times) Watch your electronics for baitfish. If you find the bait, you've found the walleyes. I don't want to let all the cats out of the bag quite yet. If your still having trouble, go to this place called critters, They'll put you on the hot bite. If you drop a few bucks there the info comes a little easier. What part of Illinois is you family from? I'm looking to catch a ride back to that neck of the woods. I could get you a twelver for the trouble. I'd also be willing to hit the water for a few day and help you dial into the hot program. |

| Thanks for all the help guys. Went out anyways and got a big ol skunk to show for it. I did manage to tear up my prop seal when my boat drifted into the a cane bed. Man those things are tougjh. Till next time boys good luck. |

| Oh yeah. To the guest login above I would love some tips on fishing. Things aren't coming as easiy to me as they use to. And that ride back home might be hard because I'm planning on grounding myself here fer a wile. try greyhound but I don't think they take "twelvers" as payment lol!

| Hey Hammer sorry to hear about the big skunk. Did you try shad raps in the deep hole? That usually works. Bad deal about your motor. Hope there wasn't any duck hunters scouting the area to see you in the cane beds. The duck hunters get mad if someone breaks off a stalk of cane. It is very fragile habitat and people are engouaged to stay out of them. (unless your a duck hunter driving a duck boat with a dirt devil on the back) No problem about the ride. I got as far as milwaukee and I'm staying in a friends basement. It stinks and his mom is always crabby. Only 90 more miles and I'll be fishing on the bago system. The offer still stands though, any time you need some help in the boat, let me know. I usually fish off the bridge. |

| Not sure what the big deal with canes are. We used to crappie fish right inside them. To the guest above I have a couple days to get out next week. I might beable to pick you up from milw. Message me.

It is not illegal to enter a cane bed. It is suggested to stay out. The signs even say it. It is in the spring and summer when they are growing and they are most suseptable to damage. Most duck hunters are also the same guys who fish the beds and know enough not to hurt the root system at the wrong times of the year. They do duck hunt from them and it hurts nothing unless the root bars are pulled from the mud. Please make sure you know what you are saying before spouting off. |
