I guess the photo threw me back a little. Geez guys do we really need to push so hard the tourneys are getting that dangerous? What about our kidneys and backs?? I would think that the helmet would also cause extreme stress on the neck for the jolting around. What do you guys think?? I'm all for speed, heck I run my Skeeter with a 250 wide open almost all of the time, but when it gets that wild I do slow down to a safe speed. Flying is great and all but crash landings in rough water can be very hazardous.

Member Posts: 30 | I've seen a lot of bass guys wear motorcycle helmets during tournaments. I was told they do it to keep the water out of their eyes.

Member Posts: 129 | Canada's walleye season is closed until the 3rd Saturday in May (annually). Chances are they are haeding towards Kellys or North of the Bass Islands. The Vermillion Bouy reports the larges waves at 2.3' for today at 9AM. 1 footers when they took off. I'd call that calm! Member Posts: 12 | It's funny how everyone's impressions are different. I thought the opposite of the original post. I saw a smart man wearing a helmet with those cooler temps and winds. I viewed the helmet not even as a safety item but as a item for head warmth and keep water out of eyes while driving in big waves. I see no negative advertising for the type of boat he is driving. I went to wearing goggles this past year during early spring and late fall conditions and love it. Can't believe I didn't do it sooner. I'm going to buy a helmet one of these days. I think you will begin to see more of this. Looks like a smart idea. My 2 cents.

![]() Member Posts: 22 Location: Sioux Falls, South Dakota | I like the feedback. Since I switched over to a wheel boat from a tiller I've always had a walk thru windshield, so the comfort Idea light never went on, just the crash helmet idea. There may very well be a market for light weight helmets for marine use. I've seen the Bass guys use them but I must say in all of my years of tourney fishing here in the Dakotas I've never seen one used. However the popularity of the head strap face shield seems to be growing. I may get to see this at the Lowrance Pro Team next week ![]() Edited by Dutchman 4/28/2004 3:03 PM

I wear one when it is nasty out. It is warmer than a hat and the windscreen is great! It works really well for ice fishing via ATV, too.

Location: Rhinelander | T-Mac has it right. I have a snowmobile helmet I wear during the cold weather muskie trips I take. The rain/wind are not so so much a factor if the screen is treated with a water repellant, and the helmet is WARM.

If you were from Duluth Minnesota and had to get hours on your new boat before a tournament you'd be wearing a helmet too. Owner of the boat uses the helmet for warmth and keeping some what dry. Beleive the temp at take off this morning was 38 add a little wind and speed you'd probably have a wind chill in the high 20. Who wants to be wet and cold your first day of a tournament????
