Member Posts: 1314 Location: Menasha, WI | Hit 'em hard again this morning, they were really active in the snow. Six smallies on the ice and lost several more jigging. Had a few tip-ups run too, most hit and ran but I did break one nice one off trying to horse it in. They weren't running quite as large as perivously, but I did manage one 17". The lawyers are VERY active - as much as I tried to avoid them, I iced 5 or 6 of teh slimy SOBs. Edited by Viking 2/20/2005 12:14 PM

Viking; Those lawyers are good eating. Take the top filet, cut it into pieces, boil the pieces in saltwater until done (a few minutes), chill, and serve with cocktail sauce. Yum!

Member Posts: 1314 Location: Menasha, WI | I'm with you eyelunker. They may be delicious but I would never be able to get over the mental picture of those ugly, slimy things. Plus I can only imagine the slimey mess they make when you try to clean 'em - I was covered enough just unhooking them and chuckin' back down the hole.

You have eaten ling cod if you have ever eaten pollok. Sheepshead from cold water are also great if prepared like I stated in my last post. The Twin City Rod & Gun Club used to have a sheepshead feed every year and I don't remember there ever being leftovers cause everybody piged out! ยบ

Member Posts: 1314 Location: Menasha, WI | Headed back to the same spot for the fourth weekend in a row - I may have gone to the well one time to often. This week: 2 marks, 2 hits, 1 - 13" fish on the ice. Sounds like the eyes and the perch are pickin' up so I'll probably turn my attention back in that direction.

Member Posts: 859 Location: Appleton wi | Bd you are incorrect. Poor mans lobstor can be made with different types of fish such halibut/kingfish and i am sure there are more. Poor mans lobstor is a general term. Edited by eye Lunker 3/1/2005 6:11 PM

Member Posts: 181 Location: Manawa Wiscowsin | True eye Lunker but the commercial fishermen on Green Bay netted lawyers for many years to supply the NE Wisconsin area with lawyers for fish fries and poor mans lobster. It was a cheap alternative to other fish species for "all you can eat" dinners etc.

Member Posts: 1314 Location: Menasha, WI | OK, I'm cursed, but in a good way I guess. I moved to a spot 4.5 miles from where I had been catching the smallies. What happens? I catch more smallmouth. Landed at least 15 fish this morning, had three doubles, lost a jig rod while landing one on a tip-up, & lost another dozen fish. Not any real size, the largest was 16" and most ran about 13". I'll be taking the boys out this afternoon, hopefully the action continues.

Member Posts: 1314 Location: Menasha, WI | Took the boys out his afternoon. Not as fast and furious as this morning but steady action. We iced 6 and lost another 6-8. Attachments ---------------- ![]() ![]() ![]()
