Member Posts: 921 Location: Manitowoc, WI | Just got my boat back yesterday. 2006 225 Optimax was sucking air through 9.9 Pro Kicker. Not sure how the fuel line ties in because I haven't had time to look at it. I suspect it is tied into the main motors fuel line instead of a seperate line to the tank. I was told that I need to add a shut-off valve on the fuel line for the kicker or unplug the kickers fuel line while running the 225. Now, I ask myself, If I was to build and rig this boat, would I spend the extra $25 for the valve and install it? Darn right I would. So, if anybody has had any experience with this, I would appreciate any advice on installing this valve by myself or would that void any warranty? Thanks in advance.

Member Posts: 1188 Location: Chicago IL. | Not sure how your set up is but I have a valve seperating my fuel lines, it stays open all the time . Might want to take a look at you bulb on your kicker, check valve sounds like it is not holding. There should be no reason to have to disconnect you gas line. A valve would be a good thing to have if your bulb goes out to seperate your lines if it is tied together from one gas line.

Horshak,I installed a tee, available from Atwood I believe,in the splashwell of my Osprey. One fuel line in,two out,it switches from one motor to the other with the twist of a knob.Five years and I've had no problems.I by-passed the original line through the splashwell.I'm not afraid to drill holes. You can install it yourself if you have any mechanical inclination.I don't understand why the dealer didn't.

Member Posts: 2445 Location: Fremont, Wisconsin | The problem has arose in the past that the valve that fibtat speaks of will restrict the flow of fuel. When that happens it leans out the fuel mixture for the engine and will detonate a piston. As with anything mechanical, some will work and some will not. The nice part of using check valves is, it does not retrict fuel flow. It just stops the introduction of air. Meaning, the engine just loses it prime all together. Most times the engine will just quit for lack of prime, I.E. no fuel getting to the intake system. Opti-maxs will go to guardian mode and let you limp in.

I have seen many boats rigged with a Tee cut into the main motor's fuel line. What can happen is this: with your kicker in the up position your main motor can suck air through the kicker's float bowl. The kicker should have it's own supply line from the fuel tank, eliminating check valves and shutoff valves. Lunds have a seperate fitting on the gas tank just for kickers, in fact it is even labled as such. I would surely think most walleye boats have these provisions for adding a kicker.

Member Posts: 188 Location: Westland, Mich. | bob: if you haven't made any changes yet try this. install an in line water separating fuel filter, the type with the large spin on cartridge. the bracket has 2 sets of inputs and outputs. you need one input from the tank, plug the other. connect your fuel lines from each of your motors to the individual outputs. no tee's or switches are needed. this is the setup i have run for 3 years with a 150 efi and a 9.9 kicker. no problems. http://www.basspro.com/servlet/catalog.SearchResults?cmid=TOP_SEARC...

I looked it up in my catalog, looks like an inexpensive fix with the fuel filter. Here's a link tothe part for those wondering. http://www.bellrpg.net/WOLFRIVER/MA/grouppart.asp?MAJ=014&PRI=068&S...
