Day 2 of the FLW League Championship started off on a bright note with a bit of noticeable current. All anglers WalleyeFirst talked to this morning said they all felt would definitely improve their bites.

Day 1 leader Jimmy Hughes scrambled last evening looking to replenish his short supply of Willow Cats, but doing so wasn't cheap. Having only about a dozen at the end of day 1, he was able to put together as many Cats as he had yesterday and felt confident his bite would go today. His hopes were high if he made day 3, Cats would be more accessible and felt he would be OK.

Ninth place and local Winona favorite Tim Chick stated he was excited to see a bit more current already this morning and thought it would even be better up river where he was fishing.

Sitting on the bubble for a top ten birth and a chance to fish tomorrow, 2007 FLW Tour Angler of the Year Jason Przekurat said he was going out fishing in hopes of duplicating yesterdays performance and thought he'd have a crack at tomorrow if everything goes as planned.

Stay tuned for morning interviews, image gallery, and a live broadcast weather permitting around 3pm.

My motto as a postman was this: “Neither rain, nor sleet nor snow nor dark of night shall stay this courier from his appointed rounds.”

Steve it sounds like you worked for the Post Office at one time?

My motto is this: “Neither rain, nor sleet nor snow nor dark of night shall stay this reporter from his appointed coverage.”

Nice shot in pic number 4 of the Tuffy and our very own walleye first EYELUNKER, Ritch shelley, By the way, that boat has a winning legacy on the FLW, hope he hits the gold rush today.

Zach and I ran around in the Tuffy until about 10am this morning, and the majority of the field are in pool 6. However, I would say majority of the leaders are in pool 5A.

There are anglers in all pools, although 5a and 6 are receiving the most attention.

Five bites and five fish is what Jimmy Hughes managed for the second day of the 2008 FLW League Championship. Sitting in first place once again after a solid 7lb.+ lead after day 1, he stretched his lead out even further by increasing his current lead over second place Dan Christenen to 10lb.+ plus going into day 3.

Jimmy told WalleyeFirst this afternoon that he's sitting in the backwaters of the Mississippi, away from the main river channel. His spot consists of small rock piles spread about which he got from a close friend who is a bass fisherman that catches walleyes on this spot all the time.

“What a grind, what a grind,” he said. “We just grind, grind, grind for fish that size. We’re going 2-3 hours between bites. When you get a bite, it takes you completely off guard. You’ve got to keep your head in the game.”

In second place, boater Dan Christenen of Cochrane, WI made a big move from 17th place to 2nd place with the second-heaviest weight of the day. He's fishing pool 7 and the front face of wing dams. His choice of bait in an event and system where Willow Cats dominate is a little surprising; he's been using leeches, and a lot of leeches on top of that. He reported placing a $400+ order to a dealer in Canada for jumbo leeches prior to the tournament.

Holding down third place is local Winona favorite Mitch Jerowski. Slipping one spot to third after two days of competition has him a bit disappointed but he said he is going to give it his all tomorrow. Brad Dirkman and Chad Carroll hold down fourth and fifth spots respectively. Dirkman weighed 10.6 lbs. and Carroll weighed 12.19 lbs. to round out the top five.

Also making the top ten and a chance to swing for the fences in hopes of pulling home a new Ranger/Evinrude package are:

6. Galen Bremmer
7. Jonathan Rohde
8. Jerry Fox, Jr
9. John Balla
10. Mathew Ernst

Stay tuned for an on the water update tomorrow as WalleyeFirst tournament coverage continues, brought to you by Lund Boats.
