Today's Congressional Committee Hearing video On Asian Carp. Warning: This video is 2 hours long, but I give it an A+ on content. Being true to my nature on things like this, I was very pessimistic on the whole Asian Carp problem and it's purposed resolutions. I'm very much less pessimistic now after watching this meeting. http://is.gd/82GWj Edited by walleye express 2/10/2010 2:32 PM

They control and operate it. Trust me, I`ve seen first hand what they could do to a river system.

I cannot believe the lac of interest (on a board such as this) in a story and possible outcome that has the potential to destroy everything we enjoy as sportsmen. It's like everybody could care less.

Writing arguments for or against and typing your displeasure here does nothing but comfort each other. Been there and done that already. There is an article daily in the Milwaukee paper. Many of us are monitoring this. Our governor and attorney general seem to have a handle on our concerns (Wisconsin). For now, we sit back and see what they propose or not propose.

What each agency says and their particular views on what should be done is very much more interesting (I hope) then the same old-same old Big Head news IMV. And if this ever becomes a bla'za/boring subject to anybody who cares the least bit about our fisheries, then the CARP win by default IMO. Edited by walleye express 2/12/2010 1:01 PM

Member Posts: 1188 Location: Chicago IL. | They have already won by default on the IL. There is a meeting also here today on this subject. Dennis I also understand your point. Everybody thought the barrier was working (army core screw up,they admited it) Nothing was going anywhere untill they killed of a section of river. Nobody listened that they could swim around it in high water. Now everybody is listening because they are past the barrier( wich was off more than on for 2 years for testing) and in the lake. People are kidding themselfs if they dont belive it. DNA of the fish are in the river system directly open to the lake. I sure wish this got this much press and attention 8-10 years ago when they knew we had a problem on the IL.

Really sad. Actually had some arse on the radio promoting purposely letting them into Lake Michigan because it's a waste of taxpayer money. Actually saying a bunch of hillbillies swinging baseball bats and net at them could be a positive economic stimulus as a sport. Conservative talking heads around here agree. The I'll leave it at that and my commentary out.

Member Posts: 319 | I give those hillbillies with bats my full support and full credit. They are the only ones not sitting on their a**, they are the only people who seem to be out there actively doing anything about the Asian Carp. This is getting sickening and very apparent that the fishing world as a whole does not pay attention to anything until it smacks them right in the face...and in this case that is literal.

Member Posts: 300 Location: Lincoln Park, Mi | I'll totally agree with you there Red! But to suggest that we just throw our hands up and let it happen, or purposely plant them in the Great Lakes is VERY irresponsible, shows a lack of understanding of the situation, and very foolish.

Pretty hard to sweep this one under the rug. Before the "national "debate" started it was just sportsmen that knew or had a concern. Rally the troops. Not sure why some are all excited now. A little late don't ya' think? Do a search and see how long some of us have been worried about this. Now we have congressional hearings, a president involved, national media, props3ed strategies, governors fighting with each other, attorney generals trying to put this before the supreme court. Guess I'll sit on my arse and eat popcorn and enjoy the show. Been a long time coming.

Member Posts: 319 | Never suggested inaction, but let’s be honest. The only irresponsible and foolish actions I have seen in this is within the fishing world itself ignoring this and every other major issue until it is at our doorstep...then they turn around and point fingers at everyone when the only direction it should be pointing is inward.

Guess I'll sit on my arse and eat popcorn and enjoy the show. Been a long time coming. I agree. The press is very good. The part that scares me about that bunch is that when the talking heads give marching orders, most will and do march, ragardless of personal conviction. I saw it in people at work listening to that crap. Suddenly they were opposed to fighting it when the war cry went out until I damn there smacked them back into reality. I for one heard about the carp a few years ago, but never knew it was such an impending threat to the Great Lakes or the severity of where they were already. Yes, shame on me. Along with many of us. Even some on their high horses now. Blame it on anglers? Somewhat, but little. We should all be aware of these issues and press them long before we get to this point! Hopefuly, this is a wake-up call for all of us. Blame the media? I say no. They're a business and into hot headlines and that's all that needs to be said about that. Ultimately, I lay the majority of the blame of the government. In this area, we do need more government. Who else is going to regulate international shipping and interstate waterway issues? I'm all for the vigilante water patrols
