I'm talking no GPS, no fish finder, no electric trolling motor, no line counter reels, no fancy crankbaits, no fire line, no ride glide seats, no 200 horse power FIC outboards, no 6.1 to 1 retrieve reels, just you and a simple rod and reel, using simple tackle made back then, trying to read the banks or water to stay on unperseved structure and catch fish that you don't know even are down there. I'd truly like to see that kind of contest just once and see who the real savvy fishermen are.

I'm no stranger to rowing a boat my friend. I rowed a drift boat in some heavy current rivers for 16 years, on the average of 3 to 5 miles per trip X a lot of trips. I'd be right up there with the best galley slaves of the BC era. ![]()

Member Posts: 540 Location: Milw, WI | Good, then I am in your boat cause both my shoulders are shot. Used to row in races back in the good old days. I have used the tackle from back then to fish when I was a kid and are we talking those old bait casters um.... birds nest makers, or were spinning reels out then? Those little steel rods don't cast that far. Still got grampa's stuff around to use. If not I will go with a cane pole. Oh ya....... dynamite fishing is in then right??????? Member Posts: 378 Location: Omro,Wi. | This post brings back some old memories, for sure. The days of lining up trees with houses,to remember the spot,on spot,of the day-rowing around the lake, with a window weight,on a rope,to find a reef-trolling with cane poles,( I did HATE when my dad said we were going trolling) mainly because I was the motor.Fortuneately someone told him how to make a electric trolling motor, from a 12-volt fan, like the ones on truck dashboards.(if anyone wants the plans,I can make them up)I still have my First fishing pole,a old bait caster on a 5-foot fiberglass rod, then came the spinning invention, and I've got that one too. That one spinnig reel is kind of unique to say the least,it't on a Squard two-piece glass rod,and has a Atwell Anti-Backlash reel.Pretty neat!Lets get the old stuff out,and have a day on the water.....hafe

Member Posts: 158 Location: Upper Sandusky Ohio | I'm sorry guys but I broke in with a Zebco 202 combo back in about 1969/70. You older fellows can remember a little further back than this Spring Chicken(yea right). I'd really like to see a wading tourny. I just love a pair of old Tennis shoe's and a small stream full of Smallmouth in May/June. This reminds me of a story a buddy of mine told me. He wanted to take to a farm pond for some after dark Bass fishing. He kept refering to it as Tennis Shoe Pond. Eventually I asked him why it's called Tennis Shoe pond, and he told it's because the game warden will run you down, and catch you if you wear hip boots!!

Member Posts: 61 Location: Westland, MI. | Hey Dan, Got a couple of old poles with Zebco open faced reels on them. Have it up on the Bay in front of Hoyle's. We could all row there. Great idea!
