| Went on a road trip around Lake Winnebago today and stopped to check out a fisherman near Wendts. He had 7 nice perch in his bucket fishing waxies and minnows in 2 feet of weedy water. Claimed the fish were biting so light that he could only detect the bite on a spring bobber attached to the rod. Also of note; this man told me he needed to catch alot more fish cause he had 5 kids at home. A pair of 8 year-old twins AND 5 year-old triplets! Member Posts: 22 Location: oshkosh, WI | Went out Saturday by Black wolf about a mile out. We tried a couple of reefs from 7 to noon. six flags and 2 10" perch. Looked like a city down by Wendt's just wondering if they are getting anything? | ||

Member Posts: 9 Location: fond du lac, wi | I am new to this site so hello. I am an open water fisherman on Bago but now that I am retired I want to start ice fishing. My problem is I haven't ice fished in so many years I forgot how. Can someone tell me how I should go about learning to do this? Thanks

Member Posts: 3899 | Welcome Big Guy! I used to ice fish Bago alot, but haven't for about 10 years. But I would suggest you keep hanging here, and also pay a visit to our sister site, www.IceFishingFIRST.COM . Lots of good people there, too, and if you can get hooked up with Mr. Bluegill, you will remeber quick, and learn some new things. Should you catch a couple, and he is in the mood for lunch, you will go home with a full belly of great tasting fish cooked frech on the ice!

Member Posts: 30 Location: Berlin, WI | This weekend I was in a shanty and could therefore see clearly to the bottom (4-5 FOW). I was using small jig with wax worms and plastic. Perch were biting regularly but bluegills would come up to it - stare at it and swim away. It SEEMED (and I'm trying to find out your experiences) that the bluegills noticed me peering into the hole -- although I wasn't right there with my face in the hole...but kind of peaking over the edge. They seemed to be spooked -- while the perch weren't bothered at all. What are your thoughts? It sure was frustrating! Also, just a side story, all of a sudden the perch took off like lightening and then a northern, that appeared to be about 24 inches long, came slowly up to my tiny offering and just stared at it. He stayed about 5 minutes and finally swam away. I'm glad he didn't bite as he would have made quick work of my line and lure! Thanks!!
