Hi....was wondering if someone could point me in the right direction. I am going to be visiting the in-laws for a week and wanted to get on some fish on Winnebago. I have only been on the lake once before and didn't really have much luck. I love to troll and I always here about the trolling bite on Winnebago...but just don't have too much knowledge of this body of water. If anybody could help this Iowa boy out....would sure appreciate it. Thanks in advance.

I'm hearing that there is a wicked Hot n Tot bit going on right now. On the east side in the mud. Send them out to run 10-13 down, and zero in on them. Not a lot of big fish, but the great eaters 15-18". Good luck.

Run those Tots back 80-100'. Don't be shy about going 2.3-2.5. `You'll see lots of boats out from Calumet Cty. Park. Good Luck.

Dale, I was out in that area this morning, the big school of fish that was there is gone. Moved acouple of miles each way to try and find them but the locator remained blank.

Wilk, Welcome to town. There's some good advice for you here! The bite is still good surprisingly this late in the year and although we have seen water temps around 80 degrees in the mud you can try many of the options folks have suggested. This is what has been working for me the past 2 weeks in the mud for larger fish.
Try pulling a larger crank like a Winning Streak or t-sticks in purple prism or natural colors, the rrainbow trout is working good as well (I don't know why) also the #5 shads in glass white but my go to has been the Winning streaks and T-sticks back between 85 and 110 in 18-19' water.
Give this location a try and let me know how you do

troll south to

43-58-500
88-23-168

This is a big area and noone has really been fishing it hard. I'd be surprised if you can't get a limit in a few hours. Although that seems to be the norm lately all over!

Good Luck

Rod you must want some emails.

Lures, distance back and GPS cords. The only thing missing is speed!

Please report back on the nasty grams

All I can add is last Saturday almost every crank I threw at them caught a fish. #5 Shad Raps(multiple colors 120' back), 1/4 Hot n Tots(crawdad 80' back), Rattle Tots(perch 60' back), Little Rippers(purple something 60' back - for the high fish).

Don't have the cords, but 2-3 miles out of Brothertown, look for the pack of boats.

The bigger fish(18-19, I can't get anything over 20), came on the edge of the pack on the Tots.

Speed 1.8 to 2.2, when things slowed down I changed speeds. It seemed to work better than S-turns.

2.0mph.... yup and there were a few boats out there Sat early the temp must have sent everyone home or they had their limits. After lunch there wasn't a boat in sight for miles! Only had 2 boats in sight all day on Sunday but the rollers slowed down the bite as well. Nasty Grams are from jealous people, theres more than enough water to fish and way more than enough fish for the fisherman! I can't imagine a law abiding person would complain about a person giving out a coord so someone could catch a couple of fish!

Good Luck

Tyee and BeFishin, my hats off to you both. Great reports. Don't let the flak from the few who will be upset about these reports get to you two. I haven't been out much lately, but will report next time I get a chance. Good Luck all! For the record, I am a tournament fisherman and I think it is great when someone posts this info. Tight Lines!

Absolutely, smokin job. Glad to see all the good info. For trollin FNG's like me, it nice to know I am not that far off the program. If I had to guestimate, I would think 40% of the fisherman troll, the rest jig and drift.

And good luck with the nastigrams.

Sorry, I doubted you, but ran the coordinates. It is not downtown chilton, but that nice little spot outside that great east side harbor. The one with with the tastee burgers, though the climb up the hill can be kinda tough.

WOW! Thanks guys for all of the info! The only time I was there I put in at Fond du Lac....but I think that I will head up the east side and put in somewhere up the lake. If anyone has any suggestions on that....would love to hear them too. Sounds like there is a bite happening if a guy just works at them. I am coming up from the Beaver Dam area where my in-laws live.....and I just want to get out on a deeper and bigger lake for a change. I have caught lots of walleyes in Beaver Dam....but never much in size. Thanks for helping me out......just want a day or 2 of fun for my father in law and myself.
Thanks,
Brian

Wilk71, if you want bigger walleye, I would suggest Green Bay. There are an abundant amount of smaller eater sized walleye in the Winnebago system, there are large ones also, however, Green Bay has some huge fish. Depends on wether you want eaters or a trophy. Otherwise, Stockbridge has a great launch on the East side of Bago. Good Luck.

Stockbridge is really nice and sheltered. I am kinda partial to Pipe launch at columbia woods. Good citgo for bait, poweraid at a buck o'nine, and frankly, some of the tastiest fried chicken I ever had. then you get to mix it up at tripps after fishing.

Horshak is right though. Bigger fish on GB. Action and eatin on winne.
