Well, made it out last night, went fishing under Dells Dam. What a tranquil night it was, unfortunately all the gates of the spillway were shut and the level is quite low for this time of year to get a really good move. Started off with a spinner. Got 1 14.5" Classic Dells Eye and then 2-3 more on minnows on the bottom. My buddy Jamie AKA Catkiller joined me and got a few bites on a shad silicone tail. We changed locations a few times ran down to Dell Creek Mouth had the river all to ourselves - not a soul! Instead of the expected Crappies in one of the eddies we started off with MudPuppies and eventually short walleyes one after the other. Later on in the evening Jake from Milwaukee joined us but had no luck whatsoever. This morning I took him Perch fishing but we only had a dozen between us two. All in all fun night last night lots of laughs! Unfortunately the wind is awful today so I commiserate the guys in a boat on The Wisconsin ...

Mudpuppies wrapped around your favorite stick bait takes about five minutes to get them off. Keep the pictures comming it keeps me in touch with what walleyes look like. Ice is finally starting to melt and our season is closed till May. The longest two months.

John, I was almost tempted to say hop righ alongside, but then I looked at the Niagara Falls, NY... Location field for you... Yes it kind of makes for a little inner sanctum having the op to fis for GameFish yearround by me, of course fishing~catching do not always go together at least for me LOL. How is Canada for you? Do not try that at all? Or it is still ice fishing there? The crasiest thing about The Dells of WI is that still not proven occasion of a guy landing a 56" Tiger Musky this last week that we are trying to confirm with eyewitnesses. He told me the fish came on a shadtail - transparent greyish color and 6# test!!! Now that is something to envy! LOL Good Luck whenever you hit the water!

Finally made it out in a boat after work last night. My buddy David Kugler of Milwaukee took me in his watercraft after they had a decent day on the water with his customer Mark. They had 3 keepers of which 2 Walleyes @16"&19" and 1 Sauger@16" all males they did pretty steady by the cables vertically jigging with fatheads a few shorties by Mex Rose and a few hair off from keeping size releasers by the mouth of Dell Creek. I opened the night with a highfinner and signed in with 2 Sauger @ 14.5" and 14.75" in that order and was hoping for the keeper next when something snapped our hosts rod and we wrapped it up. Weird part both males I got fad flesh tumors and I have seen it before on sauger in the Dells. And at the speed we flew good there are no silver thickheaded carp by us... That sums it up for my 45mins on the water yesterday ;).
Ran back to the Briggsville spillway for my Perch but they are scattered as there are no Gators seen herding them. Still managed a few keeping only 4 meal sized beauties.

Hi, obviously I am trying to take it upon myself to keep You up to date with what is going on in The Dells. Well, it is going!
- Tuesday night stepped back in David's boat bit left it with not a single fish! Big Dave splashed a nice stringer on the filleting table at River's Edge with the added bonus of a heavy Northern.
- Yesterday my buddy Jake managed a very nice Northern on his #12 Husky Jerk and no Walleyes until we met up for some vertical jigging from shore - yep there are quite deep spots under the cliffs managed a few nice fish but still no keepers. Started fishing for Crappie and found them to be there and willing to bite...and it was time to go my buddies stayed and got 5-6 Slabs each and 1 keeper male Eye all on tiny plastics.
- After midnight ran to the spillway at Briggsville to find the water flow shut all levels drawn down and the pool stacked up with splashing fish! Poor things were beaching themselves in search for an escape! Muskies Northern you name it it was there! Hope they let them get some water so they can escape!
- This morning Scott calls me and says bite is hot so with no further convincing I jumped in my waders. ... It sure id tough to dodge boaters' wakings, almost took a cold dip, no comment on courtesy Found the 12-13" Crappie still showing their taste for plastics over flesh. Crawdaddy also liked them ;). Truly the only ones that enjoyed my shiners and fatheads were the ducks LOL. We see more keeper eyes on the stringers which is good! and a lot more loser speedboaters which I will not comment on ;)

I do not even know how to tell this part... I suck at fishing BIG TIME!!!
-1st Yesterday I wade in knee deep water next to a 16ft drop and all I get is a Northern snip the tail off of my twister...
-2nd my buddies slam the living breath out of the Crappies - and I am talking 11-13.5" Slabs, while I play the cool guy with the fishing attitude and get scunked...
-3rd I fish the evening at the sandy beach on the powerhouse side knowing the Sauger were spawning already and surfacing for the tiny flies that showd up from I-don't-know-where and I leave each and every jig/hook/lure to a snag on every cast while a dude right next to me is getting a fish on every cast (well they were all a hair short of keeping but still he was the one to catch something and get the action...) I started stinking really bad... in fact so pungeant that I went on the Mexicali Rose side just to find out that Mud Puppies eat plastics too - missed the only 2 decent bites I had and went home with my tail tucked...
-4th This morning I head back to The Mason Spillway in Briggsville and what do yo know - now I cannot even get the Perch to bite... By changing from Pearl -to- Purple -to- Chartreuse Green I only managed 5-6 fish 3 of which on minnows, and then again I hear of my buddy's 18 Slabs for the morning...
All I have to say is I hope that was the last strike out(on top of not making it to Genoa to the Almighty Mississ.... last night )

With all the flood gates being open yesterday you would think it is on. In wait of the Thunderstorm Doppler Radar predicted for 2100 we were smacking lips for the shorefishing of a lifetime... Me and Jamie landed a Walleye each, my buddy had a decent Northern inhale his Shad Tail and there it went - inhaled.... A 3lb Sucker topped the scale of last night and we called it quits for eyes and moved to one of the Crappie honey-holes... to just hook into one :(. This morning did not see any keepers reeled in. A friend had a nice bag of 17 Slabbo-Crappies I personally got skunked! Promice to start waking up earlier!

Great shots! we still have about 30" of ice here, but the rain today and warm weather slated for late next week will help.

Thanx, sir. I saw it coming yesterday water flow is hectic and levels are rising so it gets hard (and dangerous) to wade. Made it back to the river 0445 this morning. Was the 1st ;). Waded out to see the water keeps coming. Something hit me in the lower back and I turned around to see a 7X5 ft wooden door! MAn did that give me the creeps! Had a few hits but missed them all, a fellow landed an 18" Male on a clear twistertail, and a pretty large Sucker while I was just watching and waiting. Sun came up nice and bright with no fish in my count so I thought better of it and started looking for the Crappies... Well I found a few current breaks and deep eddies and they were there 6-9ft down in 10-12FOW. Pretty decent slabs too ;).

I do not accept any more whining about this years low waters LOL. Stopped by Botch to renew my license... Hold on and get the foldable greenery unfolded cause you are in for a surprise!

Resident Annual: $17.00

Great Lakes Trout/Salmon: $10.00

Inland Trout: $7.25

-----------------------------------

Total: Mucho $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

While water is not the only thing on the rise, let's not forget there is fishable water ABOVE Dells Dam. Of course so far I have found only short Walleyes (do not think there is any Sauger above dam), but heck - I still have not landed a keeper anyways ;). I will keep you posted on how I do. Until then...

Good Luck Fishing To All!

Be Safe And Have Fun!

I am getting ready for the Guitarmageddon in Milwaukee yesterday 1600 and chumming down my sandwich when the phone screams in my year: "Help, man I got this huge Walleye on my ultralight and I only got my "butterfly net" :)LOL" That is Scott for you always fishing and always on top of his game.... All I did was grab my car keys and run to the rescue :). And did he ever hook into a biggie(for 4#test 1/32oz jig Crappie rig we are speaking of LOL)
The Lady was 24 inches and pushing 5#+ did not play around weighing her but let her go make babies!
How I wish I landed her!? you would ask...lets just say that is the biggest Walleye I have held in my hands since I am in the US ;)... I have had a 8lb Zander ways back from the Danube, but I was as happy as can be for my buddy Scott - personally the most persistant and devoted panfisherman I know.
I am more than proud to have a friend like Miro Dininski! He won 1st place in the 9 performer event @ Guitar Center Brookfield! That was SOMETHING next week we win again and it is Chicago and Vegas
This morning I did not even want to fish but put the time into finding some Perch under Mason Spillway and a Huge Musky stole my favourite spinner cause I was dumb enough to tighten my drag instead of loosening it , oh well next time the picture will be mine ;).

Just because of ridiculous car trouble had to turn down 3 offers for great fishing :(:
~ Wolf River dandy Eyes...
~ Lake fishing for spawning 11"+ Gills...
~ Root River Steely fun...
So I did what I do best - hit and miss Perching. I'm too sceptical of fishing under Dells Dam for at least a few days, but Briggsville still offers decent Perch with th eoccasional adrenaline rush.

I realy enjoy your fishing reports. I just have a suggestion to make. Since you have made 5 or 6 reports on the same thread, with alot of pictures (that's the best part), it takes a long time to download all the previous ones inorder to view the update (especial on dial up, and it would also save the server from transmiting all of the picture files everytime this post gets viewed). So maby you would not mind starting a new thread? I don't want to sound like I'm telling you what to do, just trying to help all of the loyal reader out.

Nice perch! Goes to show one can do pretty well from the bank if one knows what and where.
