Well we just returned from our trip. And it was just awesome. The weather was great.Sunny 6 out of 7 days. And the fishing was even better than I could have imagined. My 15 year old daughter caught a 7ft sailfish. This was my first time on the ocean fishing. They troll until they spot a fish on the surface. Then they pull up to the fish slowly and cast a live bait to it.Now I know why they call it the hunt for big fish. The guys we chartered with could spot these things pretty far out.The tails stick out of the water about a foot or so.One school had 9 fish in it.The fish we finally hooked was at about noon. The capt. ran to the front of the boat and cast a live(big eye)to the fish and waited for the bait to be taken. Then all hell broke loose. He handed the rod to my daughter and at that moment a rod off the back took off.The other was given to Jessie the other lady on board.Ladies first guys. After a 20 min.fight both fish were flopping on the floor of the boat. The colors are just amazing. We saw about 20-30 fish on our 9hr trip. Here are some pics.

Glad to hear you had a great time. We also had a great trip, it could become habit forming. Sunny everyday temps in the eighties. We also fished for a day, not as good of results, but I would do it again in a minute. Never saw a whale jump before or searays or manta rays, you get the picture. Take Care, Doug

Risor sure looks like you guys had fun and caught some awesome fish too. My question is what do you do with all the fish you caught. Eat it? When I was in Puerto Vallarta all I did was eat, drink and sit in the sun watching the fishing boats go out.

I had asked if they were any good to eat and they said they were not good.So they tried to talk me into getting it mounted, but i said i had to get the ok from my wife. The gentleman from Holland that was on the boat with us proceeded to bargain the price down and he asked if he could have the fish so I agreed to let him have the fish. Then i get back to the resort and she tells me I should have gotten it mounted.Man I was not happy to hear that. But after thinking about it I have no idea where we would have put it.The total length of the fish was around 8-9ft.He really wanted the fish though. The couple from Minnesota had theirs mounted also.It was an awesome trip.

That is the first time I ever heard of someone "Killing" a Sail-Fish? I fish them all the time in Islamorada Fla. and we tag them over 100lbs. and measure them to get Fiberglass Mounts made, when they are big enough ( still looking to break the 200lb mark) 145 according to the computations so far, and that took me 19 years...last week I had 3-all under 100lbs...hafe

Hafe, thats BIG business in Mexico. They feed a family for a month. It costs so much to fish in the states more and more people are heading there for this reason, I think it will turn into something similar to elephant tusks or exotic animals coming in from Africa pretty soon. Personally I would never mount one. Besides it would be a bit#@ taking it to the office and passing it around!
Good Luck

Hafe I looked at alot of sites and there were plenty of Sails and Marlin hanging up.I would have loved to return this fish, but the crew was on top of this fish so fast with a club.I had no idea what the procedure was when you caught one of these things. As I said earlier this was my first time fishing the ocean. Now if I had known what I do now that fish would have been swimming yet.

Well when in Kansas,do as the do.Just a new piece of info,I was not aware of.Not saying it's right or wrong, to each their own.If it is being used, than thats great! I have seen people come in to the docks, with fish and get their pictures taken, and the fish wind up in the dumpster on the dock..just glad this didn't happen there...hafe

Hafe the gentleman from Holland really wanted this fish.He was more excited than my daughter.I'm glad for him,it was a very exciting trip and I would love to hit the ocean again.I think my daughter will remember this trip for the rest of her life.

We'll be fishing for Tuna and Billfish, so this should be a really good time. The winds can be nasty there in April, so I hope we have at least one calmer than normal day!

Risor,

Looks like you had a good time. We just got back last Saturday. Did a one day sailing excursion while we were down there. Saw whales, sea turtles and a school of rays. Even watched the dolphins swim from the beach in front of our resort. No fishing though. I was the only one in the group that wanted to go, so I got voted on the island. But, 2 times to Puerto Vallarta and 2 times had a great trip.

Dave.
