![]() Member Posts: 2680 Location: Essexville, MI./Saginaw Bay. | While cleaning my boat after last nights trip, I started thinking about the recent topics and the thankful nature of people asking questions and being almost shocked when getting a truthful, concise answer. This (Sharing Info) topic and the many (often vague) answers to it, have been on boards since I started using the web. Seems there are many reasons given by lots of posters about why not to share info, or the criterion for doing so. Many just say, "PM me, and I'll fill you in." Like the sharing of Nuclear Secrets. So where does this mentality and attitude come from? I think its Primordial. Back when Saber Tooth Tiger loin cloths were in fashion, you and your tribe literally lived by what you knew and learned in the wild. And sharing any of that knowledge actually threatened your very existence. This changed little through the (Kill or be Killed) mellenia. And the guy who learned and knew the most, became head banana of the tribe, a respected individual and had his pick of the tribes toothless women. ![]() If you look at it in today's world, very few things have changed. The reasons and parameters have changed, but only slightly. Someone once said, "Knowledge is power." And God forbid giving any of it up. I'm deeper than most of you thought, hey? ![]() ![]() Edited by walleye express 11/21/2005 1:25 PM

And civilization began when those "tribes" first started to trade. corn for beads, blankets for technology or salt for diamonds, trading and learning was a part of very early civilization. It was probably started by two women who looked at each other and thought, geeze, I can beat the crap out of that perosn and steel the blanket that SHE made OR I could just make her go away, even though she really wants this basket that I made OR we could trade - hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm I know Egor is going to be PO'd but????? Probably got the crap beat out of her for getting rid of the basket. Edited by Joel "Doc" Kunz 11/21/2005 3:35 PM

I went into the local sporting goods store, and listened to a clerk I didn't know, tell a customer I didn't know, exactly where to go, and gave a very detailed description of the boat to look for. The guy with that boat knows the lake really well, just fish where he's at. It was my boat he was describing. Hmmm, I never told anyone about that spot, I didn't even know who the clerk was, but alot of people started fishing really close to my boat, for a while anyway... It was kind of hard to keep a secret when people were told my boat was the spot. Where ever I went, it was like a parade!

Member Posts: 188 Location: Westland, Mich. | i have no problem sharing info but most of the time it's a waste. a couple of years ago i was drifting bouncers on erie. it was about 8 am and i had 3 in the box. as i'm drifting along another boat is coming in my direction. the guy pulls up near me and asks how i'm doing. i proceded to tell him about the 3 fish and what i was using and he then tells me that they had done well the day before about a half mile away. he then takes off to go to the spot from yesterday. i finished my limit in the next 30 minutes right where i was.

Member Posts: 377 Location: Neenah Wi | Well that guy may have finished in 15min.Did you say you would'nt mind if he moved in on your spot?I would never think of drifting the same spot as another until after he had left.If I'm on fish and another boat is near I've been known to motion them over and tell them the skinny and tell them to fish near me if they wish.Fish are always moving from spot to spot so I have no problem sharing info with others. But I still have spots that I will keep to myself and a select few.Everyone has a secret spot.If you told others it would'nt be a secret spot.General info is what i will never hold back.Dan you were going fishin were'nt you?HA no bites yet.:) Edited by Risor39 11/21/2005 11:50 PM

![]() Member Posts: 2680 Location: Essexville, MI./Saginaw Bay. | I had a friend (and he'll probably read this) tell me that he was catching fish on the 47's on the Bay. When I reported that a few fish were being caught on the 47's, he got miffed at me. The 47's are GPS numbers. They run 1 mile long to the 48's and 1 mile wide to the 46's, given all the parametors that would still incompass the 47's. He didn't, nor I didn't, say 47.345.89. Now include the fact that walleyes are always moving and the Bay is 586,000 square acres Big. Just how much secret info did I give away? ![]() ![]()

Member Posts: 2393 Location: Waukesha Wisconsin | Dan, How far does your tolerance go? You are catching fish at 47. Bait shop says your charter is smoking them at 47 and gives a description of your vessel. You go out with a full boat of clients and experience a small fleet of boats that just seem to follow you all day. Is this okay? One of the boats has a novice skipper and gets in your way a couple of times during your 8 hour trip. You getting a little riled yet? Do you say anything to the captain? Do you say anything to the bait shop owner? Or do you just grin and bear it? Do you move on to find another honey hole after finding this one yourself? Inquisitive minds want to know ![]() I recall a trip a few years back with my deceased dad. I told him that I knew that a couple of Minnesota boys were following us around the lake the last two spots. He assumed I was paranoid and they "just happened to show up". He changed his mind when I stopped fishing and they pulled out the binoculars looking for the next boat they wanted to chase. .

![]() Member Posts: 2680 Location: Essexville, MI./Saginaw Bay. | Points well taken Dennis. And the trolling congestion you've decsribed, happens quit often on the Bay without the (HOT BITE) rumors or the published reporting. But I've had my best luck staying away from the crowds for a lotta years on the Bay. If a tight pack forms and I can't avoid problems, I turn the boat and troll to greener pastures. You have to remember the Saginaw Bay is about 12 feet deep on the average, and 25 FOW is called "The Black Hole". You put the 7th fleet over any feeding school of fish, and their on their way to someplace else in a hurry. And I've recenlty started experiencing that "Fallow that Boat Sydrome" this year, since I moved my boat to Hoyles, a place where theres a lot more public traffic. None of that really bothers me. I'm either using offerings that nobody else has, (Spoon Harnesses) (Wiggle Discs) (Rattle Tot's with Crawlers attached) to mention a few, and in ways that few others can or want to duplicate. Yes, I'm a weird duck on the water as well as the internet. Our short day together fishing Lake Erie on Bob's boat using Bob's gear, only gave you a little insight into my true fishing personality. ![]() ![]() ![]() Edited by walleye express 11/22/2005 2:34 PM

Member Posts: 188 Location: Westland, Mich. | well. it's a big lake. that day there were onlly a dozen or so boats in sight. a lot of times there are 200 boats cramed into a square mile, some troling some drifting, some of the drifters casting. i try to spread out as much as i can, but as long as no one gets their lines cut, it usualy works out. if he moves off a hundred yards or so from me i'm ok with that. on the other hand if i'm the one moving in on the pack i prefer to work the edges. as for his sucess, i have no idea. my take on it was that he was fishing memories.

Member Posts: 1188 Location: Chicago IL. | I dont let other boats bother me. I have learned this fishing the IL river. If you ever need to know what time it is there, just grab your net and you will have 6 boats on top of you. I just try to out fish them and not let it bother me.

Location: Rhinelander | I share information with no worries at all, except for very very small lakes that could be hurt by the increased pressure. I've no problem marking maps with exact locations. I fish so many different lakes and rivers, it has been 30 years I've openly shared info, and have never had a problem with crowding at all.
