Member Posts: 279 Location: Rockford MN | My year starts in only 7 days, hard to believe. I'm leaving for the MWC in Spring Valley. The boat should be ready, all the gear has been ready atleast I think. I am really looking forward to this! I see the water is on the same level as I am, HIGH (to go fishing) and shes a bit cold yet. No matter I still can't wait to wet a line from the boat! I can't wait to see all the guys, have a few beers and talk some fishing! See you all down there!!!!!

Good luck Gordy! Seems like yesterday when the MWC made the maiden voyage into Spring Valley. 1987! I think the limit was 12 per day per boat that year. Tagged the fish. That was fun---very cold. I think Roach/Amenrud won. Probst/McClelland second. Stan Berry and I ended ...I think about 5th? Now that I can't remember. lol #49

Member Posts: 874 Location: Neenah, WI | I never get my hopes up ahead of time at Spring Valley. Take last year for example. They opened the dam on Friday night and really screwed things up!!! We'll still be there with bells on. We've got a new wrinkle to try, if it works we'll finally have a decent finish there. Coach Fellegy, nice to see you hangin' around here.

Member Posts: 43 | Just looked at three different weather forecasts in local papers, well it must be that time of the year. All of them were different but they don't look bad with the high temps warming up this weekend to about 40-46 with the lows about 25 then about Monday the temps start dropping to a highs in the upper 30s the low about the same. There is a chance of rain/snow a couple of times but it is listed as light if it is mentioned at all.

Member Posts: 279 Location: Rockford MN | Jayman Nothing like the fresh feeling of a 50mph boat ride in the chilling temps of a spring morning! lol Makes you cry, or is that just my eyes watering from the COLD wind in them??? Lol Thanks Steve! I'll see you at the MPLS sport show we have a few things to discuss.

WOW the tours have come a long way since then, but we need to thank these guys for helping make things are what they are today! I'd love to have 1/10 of the combined knowlege of that group!!! Thanks for the pic!

Member Posts: 701 Location: upper michigan | when you think it todays tournament standards it is hard to believe that the guys that started it off for us ran such small motors. Looks like i can see some 20 horse motors in there.

Member Posts: 150 Location: mille lacs, mn. | I have the same photo's and more from those days but can't, lol, figure out to get them on here. That WAS the first MWC Spring Valley event. It was a tight finish. Mike and Bob caught the most fish but Gary and Randy had one big one . One in particualr. Gary and Randy won with what some might call "luck". Gary landed the kicker( a 4 plus lb. sauger) fish after it broke off next to the reel. As the line slid through the rod guides, he quickly twisted the line around the end of the rod and got a hold of it before it disappeared into the river, fought the fish by hand to the net...and won. Skill creates luck! Just yesterday, Randy and I talked of that very event while in Fargo at the sportshow there. lol We compared aches and pains from the long grinds of running the tillers all those years since. I went away from that event learning a hard lesson... up close and personal. Mike and Bob Sr. and Stan Berry and I fished side by side both days. The fish were on a line that surely was only a boat width in size...maybe 40 yds. long. The second day...the wind howled down stream. My boat control was embarrassing to say the least. But Mike ran the bowmount on that critical line every moment of the entire day. I quickly learned there are two ends of the boat when it comes to boat control after that episode. Them were the days... Steve Fellegy #49 Edited by Steve Fellegy 3/6/2005 9:33 AM

Member Posts: 874 Location: Neenah, WI | Thanks for the memories. I wasn't at that tournament but I fished against those pioneers later on. I even fished with a couple of them. It sure is amazing how far our boats have come since those early days. I think I've still got bumps and bruises from a 16' Starcraft with a 35 Evinrude. As a matter of fact, my ego had bumps and bruises from those guys beating us all the time.
