Location: Rhinelander | I'm looking for input. I'm buying Sue a top quality reel for fishing 'eyes and panfish, so the reel needs to spool 6# well. It'll go on a MH 6 1/2' rod designed for 4# to 10# line. What's the best, and then what's the best for the money? |

| This is one of those questions you will get many different answers for, amd none of them will be totally right, or wrong. Kinda like asking which boat or motor you think is best.
Sunshine mentioned the Symetre, which is a very good reel, I won't argue that. I've had, and still have a couple of them myself. I looked into some different reels this last spring to play with because I need to rotate about a dozen of my reels out this coming year and replace them.
The one I really liked is the Mitchel Avocet Gold. It has an 8 ball bearing drag system that is smooth as silk. I understand that this year Mitchel will not be marketing this reel as the Avocet Gold, but they will be marketing it as the 302. This is a take off of the famous Mitchel 300. Last I heard, they were going to set the price about $40-45, which is a very good price for that type of quality. |

| Symetre has been good by me as well thru the years. MH rod? Sounds a bit stiff for the job? ML might be a little better for versatility and flex imho.

It has 10 ball bearings, anti-twist titanium line roller, lightweight graphite body, smooth muti-disc drag system with stainles stell and oil felt washers. Hope I find one under my tree. | I would recommend the Shimano Stradic 1000mgf with a ML rod; a 2000 for the MH, but I think you meant ML.

Are they discontinuing the Stadic at Gander Mountain? Why would they have a close-out on them? That would be one great price; if I didn't have to travel so far I would buy 4 tonight!!! Is this sale just in the Germantown area, or all Ganders? |

Location: Germantown and Land O Lakes, WI | I believe there's more than just my store in GT that has the special on Clearance items. You'd have to call the Gander closer to you and talk to the fishing manager. He/she may just honor that discount. Even if you cant get the discount on the clearance price, $99.97 is a good price for it.
My thought is that Shimano is going to do something with it, either internally or with cosmetics....The Mg is in the 2005 catalog, so I'd imagine we'll carry it for 05. |

| I just bought a Daiwa Laguna which I'm really impressed with, the Capricorn is supposed to be even nicer. I much prefer the Daiwa to the Stradic which I find has too high a gear ratio and makes it noticably more difficult to turn the handle. |

The line behaves on the Fish Eagle GSS30. I do have 8 lb test solar mint iron silk on it as I use it river jigging a lot. I've fished the Symetre longer and it is probably my favorite but the Fish Eagle is a close second after 1 year of use. Take Sue to Cabelas for a Christmas shopping adventure and try them all. My wife only lets me go there once a year under supervision.
