But the recent thread about best equipment purchases started to make me thinks about purchases I made this year that I was disappointed with. I sure do not want this to turn into a bashing thread and if it does I hope that the moderators dust it. In fact if the moderators think this is a bad idea, there will be no hard feelings on my part if they dust it right away.
That being said, I thought that this could be a healthy and cost saving thread. If we could give each other a heads up on less than promising item we all could save some money and headaches. It's also possible that your poor product could be a well liked item from others. It would be fun to see if we all play nice.
I'll start:
I wish that I would have never bought the new accu-depth line counters from diawa. My gut feeling told me not to, but I was trying to get by inexpensively while purchasing equipment for clients and co-anglers. Specifically, I do not like the drag system or the line getting wrapped around the spool. Anyone want to buy 1/2 dozen 17's/27's?

Location: Devils Lake, ND | Second on the Ripp Lippers. Bought a few at Bay de Noc, not good. Took about as long to fill up with water as your hat would to get wet if you dropped it overboard. Just goes to show, just because it looked like a Thunderstick doesn't mean it works like a Thunderstick. |

I'm surprised that more people haven't responded with poor buying decisions. No one else gets excited with all the hype associated with new products only to be disappointed later?

| Well I thought this looked like an interesting thread so, here goes, Normally I don't buy something unless I know it is a proven product and many have you have helped me make those decissions so Thanks, Although a night vision from night owl optics found its way into the household budget. I thought this might help coyote hunting and looking for deer at night instead of using the big spotlight my son likes using it after getting the coys all set up to check their placement he said it works great for that. It works great for short distances like less than 100 yards and is really cool around the yard to see at dark. I guess it works as it is supposed to but what I think I was looking for was a more impressive or expensive unit I suppose a 1000.00+ item would be better, Do any of you have experience with night optics?
The only other items I purchased that I was disapointed with this year were minnows that died before I got to my spot! Jayman I've heard similar stories on the rip lippers, If you have some that are "waterlogged" take them back to John at John's sportshop and he will replace them with new ones, the first mold was flawed. He got in the second batch and claims to have corrected the problem, I am currious as to what he is gonna do to the price next year as Normark and Dave are producing new "Originals". I think the first one in at 2.99 would make a killing here in Wisconsin.

Location: Combined Locks, WI | Ripp Lippers are definatly the hands down winner. I bought several of the Purple Prism because I had a good bite going just before Merc on purple. I did catch one or two 18" ers on them but then they filled with water, turned upsidedown and swam to the surface.

Location: Neenah Wi | I ran the lipp rippers and did not have a problem with them BUT I only bought 3.Maybe I got lucky. I did get a few fish on them as well.I'm glad I did'nt get the accu-depths.Fleet had a deal on some okumas.I will be upgrading to diawa though.The okumas have been working fine so far. Have used them on the big pond for salmon for a couple of years too. |

Second those Renosky deep divers. They do look really nice, but have a very tight (almost non-exsistant) wobble. |

Tyee, I took some waterlogged ripp lippers back to the sportsmen in appleton later in the summer, only to have the replacements take on water....Maybe they should of sold them as suppending baits? heheh |

| Jayman take them right to John in Oshkosh, Sportsman most likely didn't get in the new batch, Although maybe he did and they are still junk! either way his price is gonna have to come down to compete. And recoup the cost of the 30,000 baits he bought that weren't just quite right!

I am wondering what the process is you go through when you find you have a product that fails or isn't what should be expected. OutdoorsFIRST is working on an idea along thses lines, and I would like your feedback.
What do you do when a product has troubles? Do you contact the company that made the item? Or do you simply return the item for replacement? |

Location: Appleton | I had troubles with my Strikemaster 9" getting stuck in the ice so I emailed them and they told me to send the blade in and they would give me a new one. Apparently they sent some out with the wrong pitch. I got the new one and it did the same thing. I sent that one back and got a 8" blade instead along with two extra sets of blades for my troubles. Oh I almost forgot, the plastic handle broke and I had to bring it in to get replaced under warranty. On the plus side it does run better than my buddies new Jiffy stealth. Hopefully it cuts better with the 8", I didn't get a chance to try it last year. |
