Starts next week! Tourny season is here and its a brand new year. RCL starts down in Spring Valley and the conditions look good. Watch the coverage here on WalleyeFIRST each day during the tourny for great coverage!

Sorry, hit the return key a few times. But anyway, I live north of the river and yesterday we had rain and today they say more thunderstorms. The river was in perfect condition, but the clarity will probably go down and the flow up. The MWC might be a jig bite but the cranks might be hot by time the RCL starts. I think you're going to need 12-13 pounds a day.

How are you doing this, Troy? Remember this is an angler cull tourney(get it, the anglers are culled. hehehe). What weight(s) are you looking for? Total combined weight for the winner for all 4 days, or just the last day?

Historically winners need to average 14.5+ for each day, but for a four day event who knows. The big girls are notorious for feed frenzy's and massive shut downs, he or she who can find or stay on active biters each day will do well. That's the har dpart. The warm weather and rising water will bring the girls up to start dropping very soon.

Why does the RCL allow handlineling? It seems like a very 'unprofessional' way to fish out of fancy boats. Learn how to jig instead of dragggin half the tackle box around.

What is it going to take the last day to pull the whole thing off? I know it is almost impossible to guess the person but what do you thing the weights will have to be? I hope the weather stays nice!

It will take around 20lbs. to make it to the top 20 and fish day 3, day 3 they start from scratch then they cut it to the top 10 for day 4 and combine day 3 and 4 wieght for a win and I'll guess 28.55 lbs. for the last 2 days.

Having just come from the very tough bite at the river this past weekend...introduce a river on it's way up, another couple feet of water and some more mud and dropping water temps. Tough is gonna be putting it mildly.

Gonna need about 9#'s a day to make the cut to day 3 and probably about 7.5 #'s to get to the last day with about 7.5#'s to win. but then again its a river and the fish could turn on. (disclaimer).

bw - can I get the under on that 28.55 lbs for dat 3 and 4? - I'd say upper teens to just over 20. The females are gone, the bite is weak and all makes. And there aren't many guys in the field that know how to fish that river and put together a consistant pattern that can produce over several days. It's a new deal each day and from morning to afternoon.

They start at zero for both day 3 & 4.

I think the cut will be around 26 lbs to fish day 3, and 12 lbs. for day 4. If the weather and fish hold, I say 16 lbs. to win day 4.

The weather and fish are not holding very strong here at Spring Valley, IL. Steady rainfall has added to flood stage levels of the Illinois River. Water levels have risen almost 5 feet the past couple of days and the current is approaching 8mph! Logs the size of boats continue to sail on down, while the fish seem to be tight-lipped with the dirty and high water. Most anglers are having terrible practice days with very few fish being caught at all. The river is expected to rise throughout the week with rain predicted every day. Will a fish or two be good enough to make the cut? Or will somebody get into a school of active fish and walk away with this tournament? Tough to say as of Tuesday night but be assured that we will bring you the best coverage throughout the tournament. Good Luck to all the anglers.

It only takes 5 bites. I still think that even with the conditions someone will have 15 lbs a day. Dan Palmer NPAA#345

if the river stays hi and muddy. on day 4 it will take 12.5lbs to win. that doesn't sound like much, but with those conditions that's good weight. plum island is going to be the spot.

John you are a very experienced river rat. But I think being in SV Pool and having several days to try and figure the conditions out, the last day winning weight will be around 14#. Good Luck to all WM.

I'd like to downgrade my guess if possible after hearing how high the water has gotten. There have been previous years in the MWC where only about 80 fish werecaught in a weekend with about 200 boats.

I'd say 3#'s on the final day could win it

Cold and rainy prior to takeoff. Several boat acquired some bad gas this morning at a local gas station, and are busy trying to dry out their fuel systems. More as the day progresses, and we'll have AM images available soon.

To every one..........

There is a change to the format this year.
Read

Qualifying Events - On Day 3 of qualifying tournaments the top 20 pros and co-anglers from the opening round will compete starting over from zero. Starting positions for pros and co-anglers will be determined by order of finish after Day 2. The top 10 pros and co-anglers will advance to the final round held on Day 4. On Day 4 pros will start by place of finish and co-anglers will be paired by random draw. Combined weights from days 3 and 4 will determine the final standings

http://rcl.flwoutdoors.com/rules.cfm?cid=5

So day 3-4 combine to make the final weight.

No way to make a guess because it doesn't matter till the 3rd day.

No clearing the board for day four.

I guess a cut weight guess would 20 lbs, to stay in it.

But with better conditions coming for day 3-4 who knows.

I stand corrected. Thanks for enlightening me, BW and Richfish.

That done. I guess the only thing I can do is double my prediction for Day 4(16) and say that 32 will win it.
