Subject: Captain Dan and the Internet!

The internet is the greatest ever invention created for civilization and socialization!

Got to admit, before being introduced to the message boards on these fishing websites, I did fish alone and/or fished with others that weren't interested in fishing beyond just catching them.

Now, do not know who to choose to be fishing with!

Which brings me to this fella we know as Walleye Express, aka Captain Dan Manyen, a very well known guide who searches the waters of Saginaw Bay for the multi-fish speices that swim in it's waters.

Having had a few interent discussions with this fellow, did want the chance to meet up with him in hopes of gaining a bit of walleye-fishing knowledge about Saginaw Bay, the site of Pete and I's MWC Challenge event.

Just doing a bit of homework you understand..

So anyway, did get out of Wisconsin the last 2 days and met up with the Captian, who along with Bo (see the current Gary "Bo" Bowman thread), told me of a few good techniques on how to get up with the Saginaw-strain of walleyes. Bo even brought along some of the tools (special weights) I may need and happily took some of these home with me (you might want to inbox him if your fishing the event).

Then, after a very long dinner meeting, we went shopping! And Dan found me a mother load of the best color old-style Tots for those Saginaw fish right there next to Linwood at Franks. Its 'Sunfish', been a long time since seeing that color new in the package.

Left a few behind should anyone within driving distance of Franks need to stock up.

Then Capt'n Dan had me follow him to his place of abode to gaze upon his colorful collection of Tots, spoons and Winning Streaks. It was great to see first hand what his best colors were.

We looked at and discussed his 18 foot whitewater sled, equipped with a jet drive engine, and he took me in to see his computer. What a treat, now I can picture him in that chair pounding on the keys to make posts. Golly, it was all I could do to not push him out of his chair to check all the new WalleyeFirst posts!

So to conclude my impressions. It was very good to meet this like-minded fisherman. He was very friendly to me and has helped direct my preparation for this event (the walleyes better be reading this!). He has alot to offer should anyone wish to hire him of a guide service.

In the files linked below, you can gain an insight to this famed fishing guide.

Thanks for the compliments Rick.

It was my pleasure to help you out with both the fishing stratigies and the best places to stay and eat in the area. I didn't even notice that anybody else was in that resturant Tuesday afternoon when Bo, you and I were yaking it up. How about them (all you can eat) ribs hey? And have you tasted the Smoked Chubs yet?

I forgot to mention that the Motel I showed you, while being only 11 miles distance from Hoyles, is only 11 miles to the Quanicassee River Marina where I moore my boat as well. This gives you an easy access to pre-fish one side of the Bay or the other in calmer waters if the winds blow hard from East or West. Also a fully stocked bait shop on the road to Quanicassee as well. I just hope you don't get to much information and end up outguessing yourself like I have done in the past on the Bay.

I thought I was going to see like this gigantic computer or two or three computers , one web site on each one ready to post. Also I found out what cranks Dan is going to try out first this year. Good to hear that some homework is getting done, now only if I could get my daughter to do hers before she goes to bed.

Am I the only one that noticed that Dan is teasing us with his Nitro Shiners in that picture of him in front of his computer? I wonder where the rest of that truck load is hidden, and which colors he got?

Sorry I couldn't make it out Dan. Rick invited me as we had planned, but I had some things to do in Green Bay last weekend. Sounds like I missed a good time. Hope we can do something later, maybe in May?

Jack.

If I'm not busy with any charters on the day/days you wanna come over, we gone like a greyhound down the road. All I need is a days notice in most cases. Sometimes not even that Huh Rick?

Capt. Dan,

Sounds good to me. I'm going to Port Clinton for the RCL, which runs thru May 1st. Maybe I'll try to swing up there before I head home. Something like May 2nd or 3rd. Depending on what you've got going on of course.

How does that sound to you Rick?

Sounds like Capt. Dan does a super job on those waters and a great guy Rick and I'll recommend him to anyone looking for fishing on that body of water. I myself looking forward to the spring here but with 4 inches of snow again from last night and still snowing it a stretch yet!
Good luck and thanks for the info., Capt. Marty

Jack.

I'm already thinking that Monday May 3rd would be the best, as May 2nd is a weekend date, and they fill in first especially during that period. We could even luck out and hit a decent pod of post-spawn male walleyes in the Tittabawassee. Or we could night fish the Bay if the river is no good. Lot's of choices then.

Well, thank you capt. Marty.

Was wondering if you and I would ever exchange verbiage. I got lots of friends in and near your neck of the woods. And I'll always share honest Bay info with any of the Walleye First members coming here to fish in my back yard. Keep sending us that U.P. lake water would ya? Actually looks like I won't have to parachute into my boat off the dock this summer.

Bo.

Did you get my return e-mail to yours, at your business address last night or today? I'd like the total (all set up cost) of the TR-1 Gold, I believe. I called Lindys today and talked to chet about trimming my swim platform and installing a 9.9 yammi. How hard is it going to be to install the Gold unit through my Gradys haul? Plus I have other pertenent question concerning the unit and it's instalation on my boat.

That would be great. I'm going down the 22nd and pre-fishing with Aaron McQuoid from Team Cabela's, and then fishing the co-angler side. Lets set a date and time and maybe do dinner or something. This trip is going to be the un-official start to my season. First is Port Clinton and the RCL, then I'm running up to Saginaw Bay to see Dan and beat up on some smallies and maybe a walter or two, and as soon as I get home, I'm off to Mille Lacs till the end of May when I go and pre fish with Bill Ortiz for the PWT on Cass Lake. Then it is just work, work, work. All I ever get to do in the summer is guide, guide, guide. Its nice when I do get a day off so I can go do some fishing!!:)

I'm disappointed in you Dan. You've been fibbing to us. Catching all those 4-lettered fish by accident supposedly? Then we see a B.A.S.S. sticker on your boat? Shame.

Rick, you know what they say about fishing,...its a dirty job, but someones got to do it!! How does May 3rd look for your schedule? I'll drive up from Port Clinton on Sunday the 2nd, meet you along the way, and fish with Dan the next day,(or 2 maybe??) and then we head home. Like I said some time ago, we will probably need 2 days of fishing just so each of us has a chance to say something!!!!!!!

Terroreyes, I had a chance to see some of your work on those secret cranks you did for Pat Cavins. Nice job. I'll be passing your name on to some people I know that would like some work done in the future.

Thank you very much! Hope the secret pays off for Pat. Couldn't ask for a better guy to bank the big bucks.

Wait till you all see the new "Geometric Shad"!!!! Color choice? This lure changes through the whole spectrum and the holographic pigment has the best photometrics(light reflected back) of ANYTHING on the market. If there is even the slightest bit of light, this lure will gather and reflect it back. Should be more visible in deep and stained water than any lure on the market. Just waiting for a new spray tip to spray it properly. I'll post a pic next week.

Terror.

I got stickers from 16 years ago on my boat, ask Rick. He wanted my old (out of date) MWC sticker I've had since 1984. The Bass sticker was when I was bass fishing with my bud in a few tourneys back in 1986.

Rick.

I believe I have another one in my dresser drawer. I'll make you a deal. You come in the top 20 of the MWC on the Bay this August and I'll personally stick it on your boat.
