I'm thinking about purchasing a hand held. Any suggestions on what brand/model I should purchase. Thanks for your suggestions!

hey Bob, I have an old hummingbird handheld that still works great. they've changed them since I bought mine over 12 years ago. the rechargable battery pack died way back so I run it now on regular batteries. I'm late in responding cause a recent fishing mag had a comparision of handhelds but I can't find it.
Things to look for in one would be rechargable, weather alerts, scan modes. waterproof, etc. most have all these features. I noticed lowrance had one with a GPS. might be handy.
We use them here in NY to lock through on a local river. I like the scan mode on a local walleye lake cause they chit chat about not catching anything. Weather on the water is always handy. My hummingbird will actually beep with the volume off when a weather alert comes on. I should get a new one but mine still works.
