Member Posts: 198 Location: Gladstone, Michigan 49837 | temps in the low 30's, south winds and now sunny afernoon skies are creating an absolute beautiful day and this morning found us doing some exploring and also give us a chance talking with other fisherman out on the ice. Good amounts of fisherman and shanties are now south of Escanaba around the corner of the harbor mouth as well heading south along the deep break towards Portage Point. Travel seems pretty good as seeing ATV's and snowmobiles and occasional vehicles out as well. Many of these fisherman are just west of the shipping channel. North of Escanaba and shanties are scattered on both sides of the Escanaba River (use caution here as current is present) and running the west breakline beyond the tanks right up and past the Terrace Bay. The upper end of the bay is showing some reports of fish being caught but as we all know the vastness of the bay and so much water we know some will be catching fish. A few reports of perch although small with the occassional "jumbo" mixed in are being talked about as well some small undersize walleye. The tendency or pattern seems to be larger fish are being caught south of the Gladstone narrows although that chances daily as well Lastly northern pike action has been moderate action especially setting up along the weed lines and beds in shallower waters. During the day and setting up for pike can be an option working the deeper waters early morning/evening. Ice thickness is varying from 8 to 15/16 inches of inch but always checking keeps us in tune. Most methods and fisherman are moving around using jigging methods combining Raps, spoons as well Swedish Pimples. Camera watching has been showing a lot of fish from perch, whitefish, burbot and yes walleye. Also heard some talking about seeing some goobies or what they thought were goobies on the lake floor. Hopefully some fishing ideas for all of you coming up in the next days and wishing you lots of luck. Keep in touch fisherman for another daily report as we plan on being on the ice tomorrow, good luck always and be safe. Capt. Marty http://www.littlebaydenoc.com | ||
