Location: Mt Prospect, IL | Well i'm back from Lake Wis. this afternoon and here's how the fishing was, for me at least.
With the river being soo high, my first approach was to pitch 2" tube jigs tipped with fathead minnows tight into rocky shorelines. Bam....caught everything from walleye and sauger to plenty of white bass (some still milking) and Smallmouth. Most of the walleye were short and almost all of the sauger were legal.
I wanted to target only walleye after a day of this so we set lines with a variety of Shad raps, hot 'n' tots, and tail dancers, (sorry no kabooms in the tackle box yet) on the main lake, out of the raging current. Trolling results, fish hitting in 8-10f near weeds and stump fields. Seamed to like only jointed smaller offerings in hot colors, fire tiger out produced everything. More shorts than legals but the action was good with a fish every 15 to 20 minutes or so. No double headers. 6 days of fishing and every day was very productive.
Weather was a drag but that meant i could spent more time on the water because my girlfriend just read her books indoors and let me get soaked.
Fishing was great, food was good and the beer was cold.---seerad |
