| Like most of you, I get the e-mails from Cabelas offering specials all the time. I received an offer via e-mail for their Cabelas $39.99 rechargeable headlight on sale for $19.99.
I already have 1/2 dozen headlights (my guests rarely bring one) so I thought I'd take advantage of the offer. Well, I just got my $39.99 headlight in the mail today and it's their $19.99 headlight that they sell for that price all day long. I checked the catalog and yes indeed, there are 2 models. One at $39.99 and one at $19.99. The offer clearly stated that the light was the $39.99 one on sale for $19.99 and that you could save$20.00.
I called Cabelas to inquire in a nice way why they were engaging in bait and switch and the operator informed me that the $19.99 headlight "used to sell for $39.99 last year in 2005 but that they had lowered the price in the beginning of 2006", but they might in the future raise the price back to $39.99. Sounded kind of fishy.
When I explained that the only reference I had was the current catalog and the 2 headlights clearly priced at $39.99 and $19.99 regular price she told me that I was not the only customer to complain about this special offer that was sent via e-mail.
Unfortunately, I can't send mine back because I mounted it on a hat and cut off the straps. I did not realize it was the lower power unit until I charged it up and gave it a try.
Just thought I'd post this information to give everyone a heads up.
After 10 minutes of conversation, the operator refunded my purchase price in full and I got to keep the unit.
I like to buy some of my stuff from Cabelas and this encounter proves to me that they are a good company that will admit when they are wrong.
Thanks Cabelas!!!
