Member Posts: 1656 | Dave, I never implied something shady is going on and I hope you don't feel that I'm suggesting that something is. Honestly, I apprecite that you do join in the conversation of this site and respect your opinions. Ritch, I apprecitate your recognition of my accomplishment. But I do owe Carrocr some credit for that as well. I could tell ya what worked for us but like any good fishermen they're all known to lie ![]()

Member Posts: 2567 Location: Manitowoc, WI | My experience on Winnebago with crankbaits is that every year is different. One year it's a KABOOM shiner bite, then a Shad Rap bite, then a Deep Junior bite, then a Deep Little Ripper bite. Holding on to those KABOOM Deep Shiners is a good idea. There will come a time when they outproduce everything else, just like these other crankbaits do. It's all a matter of timing. I agree with the assessment that last year was a great first year for Dave's Lures. The Nitro Shiner and Winning Streak were hot on almost every trip I took there. My best color was the Blue tiger w/squiggles, which used to be the number 162 in the old Storm line. Next best was Purple prizm, folowed by Jon's favorite, the blue prizm w/orange belly.

Member Posts: 1406 | John, We need to get out there sometime as I never needed to pull a harness all year! Your comment surprises me, but then again I was passing up meat pullers everytime out. Seems I covered more ground as long as I kept the column covered I had "Luck". Maybe they had bigger or more fish than me but it didn't matter cause we had a ball! Those white baits at 60' back did well for me too, but mainly over deeper water (the mud), when runnin sand bars over 7-10 feet of water we had to be way back and the little #4's worked great just off the bottom for the bigger fish! Good Luck Tyee

I am a die hard to the bone crankbaiter, it was this past summer that my buddy encouraged me to give harnesses a closer look. Wow! pulling cranks is still my gig but we put some big fish and numbers of big fish in the boat pulling crawlers. I found that, for me anyways, cranks produced smaller fish and worked throughout the lake but the harnesses produced bigger fish in certain areas. Neither one had more numbers than the other they both caught a lot. Jon Piette NPAA #294

I see a whole lot of consistency with my experience this summer on Winnebago in the posts above. Very encouraging! My favorites this past year were: Wally Divers Hot n' Tots Reef Runners On sunny days, the yellow hot n' tot with a red mouth was terrific. On cloudy days more muted colors were doing the trick. Variations of purple (especially the Reef Runner) worked well too. Bigger fish seemed to like crawlers pulled at varying SLOW and changing speeds. But for numbers and action, the cranks were chasing my boat most of the time. Thanks to all of you for sharing your experiences.

Member Posts: 2393 Location: Waukesha Wisconsin | A few of you have mentioned Reef Runners. Am I assuming correctly, that you are referring to the Rip Shads and/or Little Rippers? Are any of you running/using the Rip Stick or full size Reef Runner out there on "bago"?

Member Posts: 66 Location: Sheboygan,WI | Everyone is always going to have your favorites but what guys need to remember we all have the same habit and that is we try baits at bad times. What I mean by that is when the action has slowed down from the morning bite we start changing lures and put on that new bait. Ofcourse during the tough time of the day your chewed up old faithful will always out produce a new bait. So keep in mind whenever trying new cranks put them on at the peak of the bite for that day. Good Luck and good fishing! Russell Gahagan ![]()
