| Ive spent hours earching the archives and havent found the answer so here goes.
My starting battery wont hold a charge when Im night fishing and running GPS sonar and lights. What would be my best option for a new battery? Dual purpose wet cell or sealed AGM or optima starting. I want something that will power all the electronics and still have power to start the boat a few hours leter. Thanks |

| i have worked on boats for aver 20 yrs and find that keeping it simple is the best. Stick to a starting battery and nothing else get a 1000 cca and instead of a type 24 go to a 27 and you will not have any problems. The battery i'm impressed with is the Northern have very little problem and I like their warranty |

| That would be 1000 MCA. Depending on your HP and whether it is a DI or not, I would recommend a dual purpose battery. Get the largest you can fit in the space. Group 27, or even a Group 31. If you are less than 150 HP, definately go this route. I don't have any experience with the larger motors and dual purpose batterys. I run a Group 27 Remy Cranking battery in my boat, and that works great for the 200 Opti, and all my electronics and livewell. |

| I run two batteries for my starting and accessories. A switch lets me run Batt 1, Batt 2, or both. I normally run just off one battery so if I do need juice, all I have to do is flip the switch, and the second battery is there, fully charged, ready to go. You can hook accessories directly to specific batteries too, and bypass the switch. One battery would probably be fine 95% of the time, but those few times I've needed it, it sure has been nice to have the second one.
