Reports from the Pros are better today than during the early Prefish. The current is up from Monday as recent rain runoff finds it's way into the river, and the fish are more active as a result.

Every river and lake technique known will be in play today. The weather looks rainy this afternoon, but as Mercury Pro Keith Kavajecz pointed out, 'the fish don't know it's raining, it's pretty wet down there already.' Keith said he did well in the rain the other day, and expects the bite to be good.

Lund Pros Ted Takasaki and Perry Good report improving fishing as well. Both have had better fishing the last couple days, and expect the bite to continue to improve as the Walleyes come off of the spawn.

Most reports indicate a mid-teen weight every day will make the money, but a big kicker fish or more each day will be needed to make the cut.

The FLW got the 109 boat field out on the water at 6:30, so weigh in will begin at 2:30 PM, earlier than past years by an hour.

WalleyeFIRST Tournament Coverage is brought to you by Lund Boats and Mercury Outboards!

Curious as to the new time change? Wouldn't think (doesn't sound) many pro's would like getting up at 2:30 - 3:00 in the morning. 8-4 sounds better to me. Would think there might even be more people at the weigh-in. Most folks are still at work at 2:30 in the afternoon. Any reasons? Just curious.

Great footage so far! Thanks.

My guess is the live feed FLW will be offering during the weigh in; the event should be wrapped up now before folks leave work. The big crowds are Saturday, anyway, as far as onsite.

Tommy Skarlis whacked them today. There's no other way to say it, he blasted the walleyes and on a tough bite where most of the rest of the field averaged in the low teens IF a limit was managed.

Skarlis's 36-12 weight is ahead of Robert Bruegger by about 8 pounds. The bite was still tough overall, but it took 19 pounds plus to make the top ten. There wasn't much talk about what was putting the big fish in the net, not at all surprising on the first day of a three day event. Tenth, eleventh, and twelfth are separated by a few ounces at 19 and change, then the weights drop off a couple pounds down to 15-01 to hold a top twenty going in to the second day.

Here's your top ten:
1 TOMMY SKARLIS WAUKON, IA 36-12 (5)
2 ROBERT BRUEGGER WABASHA, MN 27-15 (5)
3 BRIAN BJORKMAN FARGO, ND 25-08 (4)
4 TOM BRUNZ MADISON LAKE, MN 24-10 (5)
5 PAUL MELEEN ISLE, MN 24-00 (5)
6 MATTHEW ERNST NORTH OAKS, MN 22-06 (5)
7 STEVE LOTZ LENA, IL 22-02 (5)
8 RICH MEALEY WESTERVILLE, OH 21-13 (5)
9 RANDY STEVENS ROCHESTER, MN 20-12 (5)
10 BRENT AFSETH PRESTON, MN 19-09 (3)

Tomorrow's weather looks to be quite a bit more pleasant that today's, although the worst of the rain held off this afternoon until just before the last flight came in. Watch for the morning report about the time you are on your second cup of coffee.
