Location: Rhinelander | The bite has been stellar on 'Bago, so expect it to take a very good weight to win. Every technique common to the area is in play, but trolling seems to be the majority play. 89 teams headed out this morning under partly cloudy skies and building South winds. The bite has been nothing short of spectacular; expectations are it should take 18 to 25 pounds to cash a check. MW Marine/Mercury Pro Dave Van Oss explained the Winnebago system's health in a morning interview, talking about the multiple year classes and strong population of 18 to 24" fish. Dave felt trolling will win the event. The Reel Shot's Brian Keller talked about the hot baits selling off the shelf in his Osh Kosh store, saying Berkley Flickershads and Salmo Hornets have been the hot hard baits. The first flight is due in at 2 PM, and the weigh in should be over and the ending reports up by 5:30 this evening. Have a great Sunday, and get out there...it's beautiful on 'Bago! Location: Rhinelander | Miller and Miller were short an angler, yet Jason convincingly took the win (accompanied by an observer, so only three lines were in play, and he was done by 10:30 this morning) and a check for $4500.00 with the benefit of the event's largest walleye, a 7.38 pound Winnebago 'Eye. Trolling ruled the day, both cranks and harnesses, and the wind ROCKED the field all day. Second place went to Gregor and Boeck. Third went to Van Oss and Van Oss, fourth to Paulsen and Hynes, and fifth to Keller and Eaton. It took a solid 17 pound basket to cash a check, but the 24 pound predictions fell short due in part to the very heavy winds.
