If your going to follow the PWT at Bismarck this weekend I posted some imagery and over laid a pre Oahe map so you can see what the pro's are likely dealing with on river near Bismarck.

If you go to the site and check out the other stuff, be sure to watch the menu's on the left. If the page is blank there is more than one choice for the lake and a sub menu will show below the one you clicked on on the left.

Unfortunately my first pick missed going by one spot so I'm rooting for my alternate pick.

Warren, I take it the phot is more current than the river outline? It appears the river changes it's course in a tigh bends quite a nit.

Awesome work. I think Doc has a bit of an advantage with you on his side!

Warren's maps are very helpful at some tournaments. They are available to anyone. However the students from my mapping class show the most interest. Most people don’t what he has until you see it. His website is new and shows some nice examples. I wouldn’t tell my competition about Warren if he wasn’t a friend!

Unfortunately Doc isn't in this one. He was just on the edge but didn't make it in. I'm curious to see how another party using the imagery does.
The last set of images were from this summer and the map I over laid was from from the survey in the 1940's for the creation of Oahe. They're nice for showing where you might run into stumps. They ran all the way up to the Garrison dam but I only used up to Bismarck. Yeah the river has changed. I even have some maps from 1893 I play with from time to time and it's really changed the channels from then. Its fun looking at them and some of the stuff you pick up. There are two old wrecks right in the city limits on the east shore. The one I wonder if it changed the channel as where its marked is the start of dry ground now in between the most southern two bridges in town. This seems to be a common happening, I've heard Winona, MN terrain was changed the same way a hundred years ago.
Any way, the images are from this summer and in fact the ones for the counties Bismarck and Mandan are in became availible only last Friday night.
