I am looking into transferring to Madison for a job but how is the fishing? I am use to being able to hit the Detroit River, Lake Erie and Saginaw Bay all in the same weekend! These waters on the Great Lakes are open all year. Are there any waters that are open year round?

Broken Wing, I did the opposite 7 years ago and movied from South Eastern Wisconsin to Michigan. First off let me tell you that you will enjoy Wisconsin if you move, alot like Michigan as far as the out doors go. As for your question river systems are open year around. You will not have quite the same fishing as we do on the Detroit river, Eries and Saginaw. But you would have the Wisconsing river system starting 45 minutes north of Madison, dells, Lake Wisconsin, Castle Rock, and Petenwell, just don't plan on taking home a limit of keepers everytime. There are ALOT 0r 14.5" fish in this system and you have to weed through alot to get 15"ers. Now a little further North and east you have DePere and in the spring and fall is a great trophy destination and alot of fun to fish. Come summer time a short drive from DePere is Green bay and is turning into a great fisherie, I cannot help you out here becasue it really started to fire up once I left for Michigan. Also there is the Winnabago system which is full of walleyes, here you can take your pick of techniques jig, drift over reefs, troll cranks and spinners. If you go to the General discussion board and ask your question there is alot of guys on here from Wisconsin and will be willing to lend you a hand. Goos Luck

Taildancer, you forgot the greatest fishing system in the world! The Mississippi River! 2.5 hours from Madison to the west! Monster smallmouth, great lmbass and some big walleye! You wont have to contend with all those 14.5" fish, better average fish once you get to know the river system! There are some monster cats you can go after as well! Madison has some of the best muskie fishing in the state as well with the Madison Area Lakes and then the Wisconsin River has muskie all over in it as well! You will not have a hard time finding fish, where ever you go in Wisconsin!

But definately give the Mighty Miss a try and also, Green Bay!!

Good luck on the move and get your butt on that Wisconsin Water!!
