Subject: Side Imaging

Just wondering if anyone has any real world experience with side imaging. For example, if I am trolling Poygan, can I really tell that the fish are at 5 feet deep or 7 feet deep out to the side of the boat for example? Obviously that would be a great help in knowing how deep to run your baits.

Also, I can see how it would work off one side of the boat, but to see the other side of the boat, it seems like the transducer would have to shoot through the lower unit of the main motor and the kicker. How does that work?

Location: Rhinelander
The transducer placement requires you trim up the engine a bit to allow the signal to get where it needs to go.

I recently switched over to hb the best decision I have made on locators. Side imageis an incredible tool to find structure and you can see fish you will not know the depth unless you see the shadow then you can guestamate how far off the bottom they are. got to www.jasonhalfen.com and see how he uses his locators to find structure and fish very informative and he will answeer your questions. I am glad i learned to use it so much info that you see what you have been missing Jim

Thanks for the info and the link. I was thinking about Steve's response as I would out trolling Bago this morning and it got me to thinking....I have an older 620 with the step back transom for the main engine and I wonder if that would interfere. I guess I have a little research to do before plunking down the money.

If I may ask, which model did you get?
