| What do you guys use to clean your cowl? Do you have to use the Mercury cowl cleaning compound, or can you use some soapy water and some liquid car wax. |

Location: Manitowoc, WI | I use a solution of vinegar and water.....works great!!! I use it to clean my entire boat. It removes the scum line and any water spots. |

Yep, and a little of skeeters products puts nice shine on |

Location: Stevens Point, WI | The "WORKS", works even better than vinegar and water. It's a cleaning solvent that is used for cleaning bathrooms and etc, but it does better in my opinion. The Lund techs on the trail told me about this, seemed to do a much better job. |

| The best thing you can do for your cowl, and your boat for that matter, is to get in the habit of wiping it down every time it comes out of the water. 5 minutes spent at the launch will more than make up for the extra effort required when you let it go.
I keep two clean towels in the tow vehicle. I use one to wipe down the motors, and transom. I just use a little water running from the motor, and clean and wipe til they are clean. The other towel goes to my passenger. They wipe down the sides of the boat and the trailer. Nothing beats a shiny clean boat!
This helps reduce the calcium build up from the exhaust heat on the lower unit, but does not eliminate it. Skeeters stuff works great. So does CLR in a spray bottle. Haven't tried the WOrks, but maybe when the other two get low, I will. |
