have done it many times: First be prepared for nightime temps around 20 and daytime can be anywhere from 30's to 70 and sometimes both in the same day. You will probably have some snow, which can be a lot to none in a days time. So basically cold nights is a guarantee and the rest can be anything. I would strongly suggest renting horses if your in a non-motorized area and doing a Tent type DIY. You will have lots of company if in an over the counter area, you need to get into pockets away from pressure to find elk. Find a good site like MonsterMuleys and read the forums with regards to a gear list. Get out there ahead of time and scout and know what kind of roads you will be traveling into the trail head, some will need chains and some may not but have them available. | |||

I am hoping to make up for a general lack of knowledge with good old fashioned effort. I am confident in my stamina, determination, my gear and my shooting...it's just the whole "finding an elk" thing that I'll struggle with :)
