The field of about 130 Pros hit the water this morning under good conditions and what's reported to be a hot bite. The estimates we heard to make the top ten were 35 to 40 pounds a day, and 90 or more to win.

That's if the conditions hold.

Lund Pro Perry Good reported a good pre-fish, and said he felt it would take 90 plus to win, but was a little concerned about the cold front moving in tonight and the post frontal winds tomorrow. he didn't think the bite would be too badly hurt if he can stay with the fish during the changing conditions.

Cranks and spinners, of course, are the main techniques in play. there are a couple anglers using spoons if what was on the rods was any indication, but no one would talk about that technique.

This one should be a slug fest. It will be interesting to see if the Parsons/Kavajecz Team can do as well this weekend as they did last on the new Berkley prototype crank.

Stand by for the weigh in this afternoon.

Brian Deffner may have weighed the largest 5 fish bag ever in a tourney today on Green Bay. 43# plus, I do not remember anyone weighing more than that.

Brian Deffner leads with 43.92 pounds on what was a very weather challenged Day One of the Cabela's National Walleye Trail Sturgeon Bay event. Lund Pro Chad Schilling is in second place with 40.05 pounds, less than four pounds behind Deffner.

Third is Korey Sprengel with 39.80 pounds, Wayne Butz is in fourth with 39.26 pounds, and Joe Okada is in fifth with 38.07 pounds rounding out the top five.

There was plenty of talk about the weather on the Bay of Green Bay today. Many pros mentioned it was one of, if not the roughest day they've ever fished in, leaving many stumped as to where their fish went. Cranks and spinners look to be the dominant technique.

Tomorrow is supposed to be mostly cloudy with a few showers later in the day. The high will be 61 with winds WNW at 10 to 15 mph. Chance of rain 30%.

The field of 131 boats head out again at 7 AM tomorrow.

I heard a rumor that a water spout about took someone out. Any truth to that? I know we saw rotation up north.
