All,
I need some help I have a 6hp mecury ouboard that I use as a trolling motor on my boat. When I bought the motor there was no data plate on it, therefore I cant tell what year it is or find any parts for it all I know is it is a 6hp twin. My problem is that when I bought it the previous owner had cut the clamp brackets to fit his transom, and now one side has broke. I need to see if anyone has any brackets laying around, or knows where I can get some. I am going to enclose a couple of pictures. I went to a machine shop and was told that they could make me some new ones but it would cost 500 dollars. Both side have been cut, so I would like to replace both side if possible. I dont want to get a new motor, because this one runs perfect. Any help would be appericated.

My guess is there must be a S/N somewhere on the motor. May need more info. 2 or 4 stroke? Any tags on the powerhead or inside the cowl?

Schmitty, any ideas on this one?

I have looked all over in the engine compartment and havent seen any number anywhere. it is a two stroke motor. My guess is it is a late 70's or early 80's model.

I would look on the freeze plug on the top of the motor.
They started putting the serial number there in the early 80's
If you can't find it there take the motor to your local dealer and a good Mechanic will be able to match up the parts for you.

Here is a link for Twin City Outboards. They carry parts for almost every outboard made since 1906. Maybe they can help you figure out the year, and they most likely would have the bracket for it as well.

Good Luck!
