Location: Fremont, Wisconsin | 4 openings left. I was out yesterday and lets just say, this should be won with more weight than in prevoius years. The rivers in good shape and maintaining with slight drops in areas.
If you are not in the tourney but want to learn more about the wolf and the how to's, come on out to the weigh ins. Talk with people. This is a great time to learn. They start at 1pm. we are located at 8969 Cty Rd. II (thats EYE,EYE) 1 mile south of highway 10. Tuffy Boats will be doing a brat fry for one and all. Mercury tent will be set up and all fished weighed on a raised platform for optimal viewing by kids of all ages. Bring your lawn chairs and cheer on your favorites.

This morning at 600 am we sent 74 boats out for a day of fishing. The first flight is due back at 1pm. and the 2nd at 130. There is promise that there will be some very big fish caught today. The pre game dock talk had most guys betting 20 plus pounds will win today. This may be the tournament to watch. Come on down, Tuffy boats is hosting brat fry. Free for all. It will be a great day to watch the weigh ins under the tent and see some very impressive fish.

I just wanna say that my Dad and I had a GREAT time today! We thought everything went great and were impressed with how nicely everything was run. Definitely will be back next year. Hard to believe that catching almost 12lbs in this tournament didn't even get you close to winning. We caught lots of fish, made some new friends, and didn't get rained on. In my mind, it was an almost perfect day. Congrats to the winners and everyone in the top five. We were in the right area, just on the wrong side of the river. The best thing is I think we only burned a couple gallons of gas.

REPEAT WINNERS A FIRST!
With a field of 74 boats, it can sometimes seem like an over whelming task to win a walleye tournament for most who enter, but not the seasoned team of Rob Korth and Tom McPeak of Waupaca. Father-in-law and son-in-law, a normally odd match in this world, won this event in 2005 with a 50 boat field. This year, they won again, But with stacked odds. The field increased by 50%. However,Sporting a 5 fish basket that weighed 21.07# they squeeked by there nearest competitor by only a one pound margin (20.01) to repeat the title. By the size of the smiles it was apparent that there plan for the day came together. They also caputured the big fish honors with a #6.07 pound behemoth. But big fish were the norm of the day. The top five places had big fish weights that exceeded 3.5#'s. The duo sited jigs and minnows as the program. Not suprising as that is the preferred food on the river.
Watch the Outdoor Gazette for a follow up of the event. They are a major sponsor this event. If you do not know where to find the outdoor gazette, next time you are in the gas station, pick up the free paper called the AUTO gazette. There are many flyers inside and one will be called the OUTDOOR gazette. Give it a good look, I think You will be surprised for a free publication.
The day started a bit drizzly but quickly gave way to sunshine and the smell of brats. TUFFY Boats sponsored a "free to everyone" brat fry during the event. With Tuffy Pro-staffer Tim Sheppard at the helm, Of the grill that is, bellys were quickly filled of all the spectators, then the fisherman. In lawn chairs lining the shoreline, the fans were in attendance cheering on dad and brothers.
The Sheboygan Walleye Club, anchored By president Chris Gasser and his first lady Gina, were onsight at 5 am to check in boats and help out with all the duties. Later The weigh master showed right on time and made everything work smoothly. Thanks Dave! With out the scales and all the great people helping this would be a different show. Thanks Sheboygan Walleye Club!!
Mercury Marine sponsored a large tent for weigh ins. It helped to provided shelter from the elements. They also provided door prizes for all in attendance. A large runway and stage assembley of Floe dock equipment made viewing of the fish very easy on the raised platform.
On stage the tension grew as the winners of the MACKS LURES 6th and 7th place finish were announced. Last season one of the teams that recieved the gift certificate actually won one last season as well. He stated how after he had ordered gear from MACKS LURES, they went to lake Erie and used the lures. He caught the largest walleye of his life on the gear he had won. Over 11#!! What a story.
The 2nd place team of Scott and Rod Barkholtz may have missed the first place MONEY but they did not missout on the TUFFY BOATS highest finnishing competitor award. Out of there Mercury Opti-max Powered, 1890 DS Osprey TUFFY, which was 1 of 8 Tuffy's in the contest, They placed the Highest. Because they did so Tuffy will award them 2 new Tuffy Jackets.
Fort Fremont Sponsored the "Early Bird gets the Worm". Competitors from the previous year get the chance to register first for this event. If they do so by a given date, they are put in for a drawing for cash. Steve and Justin Christenson have brushed the top spots a few times in this event, but have yet to cash out on the opportunity. Well, this time they did not let it slip away. Drawn for the "Early bird catches the worm" cash sent them over the edge and on saturday they were pumped, and ready, so they went out and achieved a 6th place finish and a MACKS LURES 50.00 gift certificate.
A big thanks goes out the fisherman, with out you, well it just wouldn't be an event.

Location: Fremont, Wisconsin | One more thing. There were 53 teams that boated 169 fish that totalled 515.03# of walleye. That is a 3.05# average per fish. I believe we had the largest per fish average of any tourney on the river this year. Great bunch of fisherman here. Congrats guys. |
