| I am from the south and I am looking for a new boat. I fish cumberland river lakes for Stripers and Sauger. I fish down rods, planer boards, and like to troll alot with with downriggers. Most of the guys that I fish with like center console type boats and a couple have walleye style boats. I fish some alone from time to time during the week, but it's hard to troll with one person. Will a Ranger 618T allow for some trolling alone? How hard is it steer those big tillers? Don't you freeze to death in the cold with no windshield? Any dual console boats that would allow a downrigger mount close by. Any suggestions would be great? Do the wireless trolling motor controls really work? Do you prefer them over wired cable style foot controls? If you have questions throw them this way to? |

Location: mille lacs, mn. | Been guidin' for about 43 years--tournaments and "talkin' boats" for 26 years. I've fished and caught walleyes (and you name it)in the "south" from North Carolina to Arizona. I know your waters, your fish and your boat needs...
Deep V's, so wrongly just called walleye boats, are the best design you can have for ALL types of water and targeting ALL flavors of inland fish. Any other design, such as so called bass boats, limits one in quite a few aspects of fishing. The lower profile, which usually is only 4-5 inches, and the extra few miles per hour at high end, have zero positive effects on how the livewell looks at the end of the day. And actually hamper your results in some conditions.
So--being from the "south", you need to take a hard look at the best bang for the buck (or bang for the bass or walleye or crappie or striper or ??) when boat shopping. Very few reasons for a "bass boat". MANY reasons for a deep V --so wrongly called "walleye boat".
