Typically for speeds around 1mph the electric bow mount will suffice. Most folks around here use their bow mounts to troll harnesses and for pulling stickbaits in that 1mph range. 1mph is even a bit slow for most kickers, the Yamaha T8 and Merc Pro Kicker are capable of those speeds because they are high thrust motors with bigger props, but it's still a pretty tough number to reach consistantly. I personally would look into either two trolling bags or using a bow mount.

Member Posts: 859 Location: Appleton wi | Boogie if you can afford it go with a bow mount i dont think you will be sorry. Its quiter and more precise speed , boat control so while your pulling in the big one you have a 3rd hand in the bow mount. To your original question "will it work" yes but if your on a learning curve trying to use the big motor it wont help . Edited by eye Lunker 6/9/2009 5:12 PM

Member Posts: 650 | well boogie, need a description of your whole rig, not just a motor... how about a transom mount electric... sounds alot easier than using the big motor with drift bags...

Member Posts: 29 Location: Ontario, Canada | All my fishing takes place on the St. Lawrence River, not too sure that the electric will last all day. Just wondering if I purchase the smart system from Mercury, will it allow me to bring the rpm's low enough to troll. Boogie Poisson On !

Get a 24 volt motor, it will last all day.
