The last time I had this much fun was on the second day of the WC get-together. And even though I like to answer river fishing question like I truly know most of the answers, after your away from the open water techniques for 4 to 5 months over the winter, you start wondering if indeed you haven't lost some of your edge. And today was a test of the highest order as far as river fishing goes. High, dirty, fast, very cold 34.7 water. To say I used the spot on the spot theory today with the two clients I had, would be a gross understatement.
The Tittabawassee was the River we fished today, my favorite since the mid 1980's. The flood stage that all the rivers were at last week, must have finally drawn in some decent Saginaw Bay walleyes after a winter of few fish over 15" in the systems.
We were fishing behind specific boulders, stumps and humps only a guy who has seen the river in it's clear, shallow glory (as I have) would have known were there. The DNR guy at the ramp said he had checked 17 other boats by the time we pulled off at 5:30pm. One boat had 2 fish, while the others had the skunk. We boated 10 walleyes up to 7 pounds and lost 3 others at the boat. Posting up a couple pictures of same below for you guys to look at. Still two more days to cash in.

So is that where they're hiding on a river like that? I'm trying to get a few on the stringer from shore before the closing of the Huron River here in Michigan off Erie. We've got some nice structure along the river that's about 5-8 feet deep and just receeding from close to flood stage like there. Jigging, casting, or/with what?

Terror.
Today was sunny but stayed fairly cold (38 degrees). I picked places out of the current, hard bottoms and fairly shallow, 4 to 7 feet. Above or next to places 8 to 12 feet deep. Water temps can be slightly warmer in these darker shallow waters places and walleyes will seek them out, especially behind or below obstacles. 3/8 to 5/8 ounce Chartreuse/Green jigs, teamed with Orange/Chartreuse Baily Magnets and tipped with a 2 inch Blue shiner. MMMmmmm.....MMmmmmmm...sounds good Huh!!
