Easter Eve busy - busy - busy people swarming all over the Dells, how am I going to get around to fishing!? Get a sidekick! Cool now I got the few hours to fish, but where do I go!? Call your best fishing buddies and find out... Timmy's Dam was producing and I did not have the will to try the river - was exhausted (probably need vitamines), so Mirror Lake spillway it is! There were a few anglers there already including a couple in a boat!? Panfish were biting pretty much anything presented, but there was no size to them. I decided to look for the larger White Bass and Crappie that sometimes gather under the bridge waiting for fallen insects. To my surprise the second tome my vertical 1 gramme float passed the slack I had a hit... by a 16.5" male Walleye - that fish hit in 2 FOW! not long after that followed another hit by a 16"er this time in probably 20" of water right behind the Bridge pillar. Wow! My 1st 2 "keepers" for the season and of course where I can't keep them Ironic... Caught a mixed couple of dozen Bluegills/Crappie/Perch and had a nice Sucker on a piece of a Crawler - I am expecting the White Bass and Yellow Bass to move in thick and heavy pretty soon - one thing that is a mystery to me is how come there were no big Slabs this year the Crappies there were no bigger than 10" opposed to 12"+ previous years all the fish run up from Lake Delton and there is a healthy population of Smallmouth/Largemouth Bass there as well - during the runs you sporadically hook into Rainbow Trout, Northerns and Catfish, but it is a 1st to get a Walleye for me there. Well May is coming anyways LOL.

Cool pics as alway with your post. The rod you have in the picture reminds me of the telescoping herring rod I used for fishing herring in the St.Laurence river between Rabor Bay and Drummond Island in michigans upper peninsula years ago.

Thanx, Dan, Happy easter to All (Christos Voskres! to the ones who are Eastern Orthodox) I love my european Telescopic rods - can't get enough of fishing with them, but they are highly focused on certain modes of fishing for example I got a 9ft Carp Rod that is great for Game Fish and Cats, the one in the pic is a 12ft D.A.M. match rod - these are designed to use in narrow/shallow rivers when float fishing with a precise line and leaders or lightweight bottomfishing with constant contact with the bait fishing this way targets are trout, suckers and chubs in streams way more fun using ultralightwight test lines.

Bud,
They are protecting those walleyes from harvest.
So they can try to spawn.
Know a lot of lakes where catching them right now is easy, too easy.
But after opening day you will be hard pressed to catch one.
Bud I know you are joansin for good walleyes.
I will get you on some, some way this up coming year.
But with your work hours it most likly will be in the fall.

Hey, guys I "suck" at Crappie fishing, Rich knows my buddy Scott H a great chap, who is by far the most persistent panfisherman I know and I bet he can outfish a huge lot of proffessional Crappie fishermen. He is at them day in and day out all season though. As to AVG I guess 10-11" (12 and 12.5" are not uncommon). Small plastics rule!

Steve,
2 years a go lots of them at 12-14 nches on 3 inch power bait twisters.(walleye fishing)
Some days you can not cast in the river wthout getting them, others u have to work for them.
This year looks to be lots of them but a little smaller.
Slack water next to good current, or cover seam to hold them.
Some spot always got them on them.
Best thing is they love little plastics, plastics will out fish live bait most of the time, unless they are picky.
It is nice to catch them and then the walleye some times in the same spots on every other cast.
Oh!!!!!!......the good days.
