I have a lms 480 that is only a few weeks old and the sonar screen locks up or just freezes. I have to turn it off and back on again to get it working. The map and gps pages work but the sonar just stops when it feels like it. Today it stopped about 5 times in an hour. Has anyone had this happen with thier 480 or any other Lowrance unit?

I had an X67C and it did the same thing. Sent it into Lowrance and they sent me a new one in about 1 week. All is fine now. I see the new one has upgraded software also.

Has anyone here used the X100C? Curious to know how it works.

Thanks.....Chris

Thanks for the reply Chris, I e-mailed Lowrance about the problem, I'm waiting to see what they suggest. I looked on the site and there is an update that my unit did not recieve. Without this update it says the sonar might lock up in shallow water (up to 12 feet), however my unit is locking up in water up to 20 feet... so I don't know. In order to update the unit I need a memory card and reader that comes with the Map Create which I don't have or need because I have the Navionics map card. Hopefully I can have the unit updated by a dealer instead of paying 130$ for something I don't need. Does anyone know if dealers can update your unit for you?

I have the same unit & same problem. Sloved it by re-wireing the power feed. ANY interferance in the line & the screen freezes. A direct wire to the battery, routed away from other cables & a positive connection is a must.

Yes,I had the same problem with my 480.Call Lowrance,They should send you a chip to put in the unit.Takes about 30 seconds. That should clear it up.I had two units one the gps would go out,the other one was the sonar would freeze up.They might want you to send the unit back, did that. After 20 bucks sending back still didnt work.Called them back little angry,They sent me that chip havent had any more problems.

I am pretty sure Scheel's in Appleton can do the upgrade for you. Ask for Matt and I bet he will get you back on the water!!!!!
